Description & RequirementsPOSITION SUMMARYThe Vice President, IT Mill Operations is a senior executive responsible for setting and executing the technology strategy, delivery model, and operational support framework for mill systems across the US and Canada. This leader owns the full lifecycle of mill-facing IT solutions including systems stability, operational support, business relationship management, MES operations, and supply chain technology. The role serves as the primary IT executive partner to mill operations, paper sales, supply chain, and fiber sourcing leadership, and is part of the North America IT Solutions leadership team, helping shape the broader NA IT strategy. This leader is accountable for ensuring technology investments drive uptime, reliability, and measurable business value across a mill network supporting approximately $9.6B in annual net sales. This leader will manage a team of approximately 55 employees across Mill Systems, MES, Supply Chain, BRM, and OM&E functions.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIESUS and Canada Mill Technology Strategy- Set and drive the enterprise IT strategy for mill operations across the US and Canada, ensuring alignment with broader NA IT and business objectives
- Own and execute the IT roadmap for mill systems including MES, supply chain, and core operational applications
- Lead large-scale system implementations and rollouts requiring CapEx and SDLC governance
- Ensure availability, stability, security, and compliance of all mill IT solutions and business processes
- Maintain and evolve the application roadmap in partnership with mill operations leadership and enterprise architecture
Operational Excellence and Continuity- Oversee 24/7 operational coverage across 100+ supported applications and 8 core platform products
- Lead the Mill Core Systems OM&E function ensuring incident management, change management, and application support across all mill sites
- Manage IT/OT converged support model across mill-wide technology infrastructure
- Own primary application support domains including Historian and Analytics, Process Control, Alarm Management, Asset and Reliability, Maintenance (CMMS), Environmental, and Downtime and Event Management
- Drive continuous improvement and operational maturity across all mill technology functions
Executive Business Partnership- Serve as the senior IT executive partner to mill operations, paper sales, supply chain, and fiber sourcing leadership, translating business priorities into technology strategy
- Lead the BRM function ensuring strong strategic and tactical relationships between mill operations and IT at all levels
- Partner with mill lead teams and core teams on IT project updates, incident reviews, and continuous improvement
- Serve as the primary escalation point for IT service delivery across mill sites
- Conduct regular service level delivery reviews with senior business stakeholders
- Represent mill operations technology in enterprise leadership forums and cross-functional planning
MES OperationsOwn the technology backbone that keeps our mills running. Without MES, the mills don't run.
- Support 12.5M tons of annual paper production (9.3M tons containerboard and 3.2M tons paperboard)
- Enable 500K+ reels and rolls of containerboard and paperboard produced annually
- Support NA mill operations across 26 facilities: 13 containerboard mills, 8 paperboard mills, and 5 extruder/coating facilities
- Deliver mill production planning, production tracking, inventory, shop floor interfaces, quality management, shipping, order management, trim optimization, warehouse management, and invoice management
- Manage technology stack including Panther, Optivision, Majiq, XTrim, PKAllocate, and BSI
Supply Chain and Logistics Technology- Oversee IT solutions supporting North America supply chain planning, forestry and recycled fiber, and freight and logistics operations
- Support a combined annual spend environment of approximately $4.3B across fiber and logistics operations
- Drive standardization and harmonization of supply chain systems across North America
- Manage technology stack including OTM, Blue Yonder, SAP, LoadXpert, o9, SCO, and Linear Solve
People Leadership, Talent Development, and Financial Governance- Lead, develop, and inspire a high-performing team of approximately 55 employees across Mill Systems, Supply Chain, BRM, and OM&E functions
- Build organizational capability and a strong leadership pipeline within the mill operations technology function
- Own operating and capital technology budgets supporting mill operations, supply chain, and logistics platforms, ensuring financial governance, compliance, and vendor optimization
- Implement an IT CoE operating model structured around BRM, Product Domain, and Services Towers
- Establish cybersecurity, audit controls, and risk mitigation practices aligned with IT SOX requirements
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONSEducation- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field required
- Master's degree in business administration, Information Technology, or related field preferred
Years of Experience- 15+ years of progressive IT leadership experience, including senior director and executive-level roles
- 10+ years in a people management role leading senior leaders and large technical organizations
- 10+ years of experience in manufacturing or mill operations IT environments
- Demonstrated experience leading multiple large-scale system implementations, enterprise transformations, and operating model changes across complex multi-site environments
Technical Experience- Hands-on experience with one or more of the following: SAP, OTM, Blue Yonder, LoadXpert, o9, SCO, or Linear Solve
- Experience with MES strategy, production planning systems, and supply chain technology
- Familiarity with mill MES platforms such as Panther, Optivision, Majiq, XTrim, PKAllocate, or BSI a plus
- Familiarity with IT/OT convergence and mill-wide technology infrastructure
- Experience managing 24/7 operational support environments across large application portfolios
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS- Experience in paper, packaging, or process manufacturing environments
- Familiarity with IT SOX compliance and audit controls
- Experience operating within an IT CoE or BRM model
- Strong vendor management and contract negotiation experience
- Prior experience reporting directly to a CIO or equivalent executive
