Responsibilities

Join a team dedicated to protecting the safety and integrity of U.S. air travel. Peraton is seeking a Voice / Telecommunications Architect SME to support one of the most significant modernization efforts in the history of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This role plays a central part in transforming the nation’s air traffic control communications infrastructure to enhance safety, improve reliability and security, reduce outages, and modernize the National Airspace System (NAS).

 

Work Location:

  • This position is 100% on-site, primarily located in Chantilly, VA, with an alternate work location available in Bowie, MD. Candidates must be able to work on-site at one of these locations based on program requirements.

 

Your Impact:

In this role, you will plan, evaluate, and coordinate the installation and configuration of local and remote voice and data communications equipment, ensuring the highest levels of operational efficiency and reliability. You will design, implement, and oversee complex network architectures, including both TDM and IP-based systems, and ensure seamless integration across mission-critical FAA systems.

 

  • Plan, evaluate, and coordinate the installation of local and remote communications equipment, including terminals, modems, video conferencing units, concentrators, minicomputers, CPUs, facsimiles, and pagers.
  • Design entire networks or network segments, including selection of hardware and software packages to meet operational requirements.
  • Oversee voice network reconfigurations and billing reconciliations to ensure accuracy and operational continuity.
  • Ensure that all software, including network control programs, meets communications needs and integrates effectively with installed hardware.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in the development of standards for carrier services and equipment.
  • Maintain comprehensive network documentation, including operational instructions, diagrams, and configuration details.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and provide analysis of voice networks for short- and long-term planning of in-house systems.
  • Collaborate with engineering, operations, and FAA stakeholders to ensure network designs support 24/7 mission-critical operations.
  • Provide guidance on emerging technologies and future architecture strategies to ensure the NAS voice network remains modern, scalable, and resilient.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • U.S. Citizenship Required.
  • Must have the ability to obtain / maintain a Public Trust clearance. 
  • Bachelor’s degree and 12 years of experience or Masters degree and 10 years or Associate’s degree and 14 years experience or HS diploma/equivalent and 16 years experience. 
  • Proven expertise designing voice and telecommunications systems for complex or mission-critical facilities with 24/7 operational requirements.
  • Hands-on experience with both TDM and IP-based technologies.
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in telecommunications or voice network architecture.
  • Demonstrated experience designing voice communications systems in complex or mission-critical environments.
  • Strong understanding of network architecture, communications infrastructure, and system integration.
  • Knowledge of enterprise voice systems, telecommunications protocols, and network design principles.
  • Experience developing network diagrams, architecture documentation, and system configuration records.
  • Ability to troubleshoot telecommunications performance and reliability issues.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting FAA programs or National Airspace System (NAS) environments.
  • Familiarity with FAA voice systems and aviation communications architectures.
  • Familiarity with NextGen or BNATCS modernization initiatives.
  • Familiarity with aviation operations, air traffic management, or transportation systems.
  • Degree in Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 20+ years of experience in voice/telecommunications architecture design.
  • Experience supporting telecommunications modernization initiatives or large infrastructure transformation programs.
  • Advanced experience designing scalable telecommunications architectures supporting critical infrastructure systems.

Target Salary Range$112,000 - $179,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
