Job Description:

As a VMware Administrator supporting a global, mission-critical IT environment, you will be responsible for the stability, security, and performance of a large VMware-based infrastructure. You will apply ITIL-aligned IT Service Management practices to configure, manage, and maintain VMware platforms that host core applications and services across compute, storage, and networking. In this role, you will implement and maintain DISA STIGs for ESXi, virtual machines, and vCenter; perform scheduled and off-hours maintenance to support 24x7 operations; and ensure reliable backup, recovery, and troubleshooting of virtualized systems. Partnering closely with cybersecurity, network, and systems engineering teams, you will build highly available clusters and virtual networks, support enterprise tools such as VMware Site Recovery Manager and the vRealize Suite, and create documentation, templates, and capacity plans that enable the environment to scale, modernize, and continuously improve.

HOW A VMWARE ADMINISTRATOR WILL MAKE AN IMPACT
  • Configure, manage, and maintain physical and virtual VMware infrastructure.
  • Perform scheduled and off-hours maintenance to support 24x7 operations of a large VMware environment in accordance with established procedures and best practices.
  • Implement and maintain ESXi, VM, and vCenter DISA STIGs and related security hardening.
  • Install, configure, and integrate servers and services associated with the VMware virtual infrastructure.
  • Perform backups, restoration, troubleshooting, and problem resolution for virtualized servers and services.
  • Build and maintain highly available server clusters in a vSphere environment.
  • Design, build, and configure virtual networks to support enterprise applications and services.
  • Provide senior-level support for the maintenance, operation, and configuration of VMware Site Recovery Manager and the VMware vRealize Suite.
  • Design, document, test, and implement new virtual services, devices, and configurations.
  • Assess and evaluate the current virtual computing infrastructure and provide recommendations for performance, scalability, and security enhancements.
  • Create and maintain VM templates to support rapid and standardized deployment of virtual machines.
  • Develop, update, and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) and technical documentation.
  • Create, submit, and defend system change requests in accordance with change management processes.
  • Develop, maintain, and implement a proactive capacity planning model to support business and mission decisions.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO SUCCEED
  • Education:
    • Bachelor's degree, technical training or certification
    • 3+ years of relevant experience as a VMware Administrator.
  • Required Technical Skills:
    • Hands-on experience building, troubleshooting, and maintaining VMware environments (vSphere, ESXi, vCenter).
    • Experience and understanding of DoW DISA STIG/SCAP processes and implementation.
    • PowerShell or equivalent scripting experience for automation and configuration management.
  • Required Skills and Abilities:
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Proven ability to troubleshoot complex issues and effectively multi-task in a dynamic environment.
    • Collaborative mindset with the ability to work closely with cross-functional technical teams.
  • Certifications:
    • Must meet DoW IAT Level II IA and baseline certification requirements at start date (e.g., CompTIA Security+ ce or higher).
    • VMware certification (e.g., VCP) required or the ability to obtain within a specified timeframe, as defined by management or contract requirements.
  • Security Clearance Level:
    • Active Secret clearance required at time of interview.
    • Candidate must maintain an active clearance as a condition of employment.
  • Location / Work Environment:
    • Primary work location is on the customer site.
    • Up to 2 days of telework per week may be authorized after approximately 45 days of successful on-site performance, subject to management and government approval.
    • Position may be adjusted to full-time on-site at any time based on mission or customer direction.

The likely salary range for this position is $93,662 - $120,750. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
