The Opportunity
The VP Technology and Transformation Risk is a senior member of the Canada Risk function, responsible for providing independent second line oversight and challenge across Technology, Data, Cyber, AI and Transformation risks. The role supports the effective management of these risks across Aviva Canada, helping ensure business objectives can be delivered within the Aviva Canada’s risk appetite framework and regulatory expectations.
The role partners closely with Group and local stakeholders to provide independent risk advice, oversight and challenge, supporting the ongoing development of risk management practices and frameworks across technology and transformation activities.
Risks within the role holder's remit include Cyber Risk, Data Risk, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Emerging Technology Risk and other IT risks.
The role leads specialist risk teams and works closely with colleagues across Risk, Technology, Operations and Transformation functions to provide insight on emerging risks, monitor risk exposures, and support consistent application of Aviva Canada and Group policies and standards.
What you'll do
- Provide independent second line oversight and challenge of Technology, Data, Cyber, AI and Transformation risks across the Group.
- Partner with senior leaders within Technology, Operations, Customer & Marketing and Transformation functions to support effective risk management and informed decision-making.
- Monitor and assess technology and transformation risk exposures, providing insights and recommendations to senior management and risk committees.
- Support the development, maintenance and implementation of Aviva Canada and Group risk frameworks, policies, standards and risk appetite measures relating to Technology, Data, Cyber, AI and Transformation risks
- Contribute to risk reporting and analysis provided to Board Risk Committee and Executive Committees as required.
- Provide independent review and challenge of significant technology and transformation initiatives, including major change programs and strategic investments
- Support regulatory engagement activities and the provision of evidence relating to Technology, Cyber, Data and Transformation risk management practices.
- Oversee the identification and assessment of technology concentration, critical dependency and third-party risks across key platforms, suppliers and services.
- Monitor emerging technology developments and evolving risk trends, providing thought leadership and practical guidance to business stakeholders
- Promote consistency in the application of risk policies, frameworks and methodologies across Aviva Canada.
- Lead and develop specialist risk teams, creating a high-performance culture and strengthening risk expertise across Technology and Transformation disciplines.
- Contribute to the development and execution of the wider Risk Function strategy and priorities.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives across the Risk Function, including the adoption of data, technology and agile ways of working.
What you'll bring
- A degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Business, or a related field.
- 15+ years of experience in data governance, data management, analytics, or a related discipline.
- Relevant Insurance qualifications and/or Risk professional qualifications, CRM, CRMP, FRM, PRM or equivalent
- Significant experience in enterprise risk management within a regulated financial services or insurance environment, including application of the Three Lines of Defense model
- Deep expertise in Technology, Cyber, Data, AI, Operational Resilience and Third-Party Risk oversight and governance
- Proven oversight of large-scale transformation and change programs, including complex initiatives with multiple stakeholders and dependencies
- Experience partnering with senior executives (CIO, COO, business leaders) and influencing strategic decisions
- Strong people leadership experience, including building, leading and developing high-performing specialist teams
- Experience engaging with regulators, audit functions, executive committees and board-level stakeholders on risk matters.
