Description

Background/ General Description

IFC is looking to recruit a Vice President (VP), Products & Clients. This position will be based in Washington, DC. She/He will report to the IFC's Managing Director (MD) and will be a member of the IFC Management Team and the Corporate Operations Committee.

In this role, the Vice President will lead IFC's institution wide efforts to strengthen a client-centric operating model, strengthening strategic relationships with private sector partners, and ensuring the seamless delivery of IFC's investment and advisory solutions across sectors and regions, to implement the IFC 2030 Strategy. The role will oversee IFC's trade and supply chain finance business, structured finance and risk-sharing platforms in collaboration with WBG Treasury, private equity and venture capital activities, while leading the development and overseeing the implementation of innovative financial products that catalyze private investment and development impact in emerging markets.

The Vice President will also play a central role in advancing IFC's evolution toward an Originate-to-Distribute model, supporting IFC 2030 Strategy's emphasis on scaling impact by advancing origination that balances a primary focus on development impact while ensuring investments have the risk and return characteristics expected by institutional investors.

Specific Duties and Accountabilities

Business
• Shape and execute IFC's institution-wide product and client strategy, anticipating evolving client needs, market opportunities, and development challenges, to support delivery of IFC 2030 Strategy priorities.
• Lead IFC's global client relationship management framework, advancing a unified and solutions-oriented approach that positions IFC as the partner of choice for private sector clients across emerging markets.
• Ensure clients have access to the full breadth of IFC's investment and advisory capabilities through coordinated engagement across industries, regions, finance, and World Bank Group institutions.
• Play a central role in IFC's transition towards an Originate-to-Distribute operating model, including supporting an enhanced origination function that is fit for purpose, and expanding client engagement and risk-mitigation solutions that mobilize private capital at scale.
• Lead IFC's trade and supply chain finance business, supporting resilience, competitiveness, and integration of emerging market firms into global value chains.
• Oversee IFC's direct equity, private equity funds, venture capital, and fintech activities, ensuring close alignment with the IFC 2030 Strategy.
• Champion the development and scaling of innovative financial products and platforms, leveraging technology, data, and partnerships to expand IFC's capacity to address evolving client and market needs.
• Lead IFC's revamped MSME agenda through data-driven analytics and innovative financing solutions, digital and supply chain platforms, and targeted investments that address persistent barriers to MSME growth and unlock their job creation potential.
• Oversee IFC's advisory platforms, including PPP transactions, corporate finance, and support to regional teams on upstream engagement efforts that enable private investment strengthen investment climate.
• Work closely with IFC regions, the WBG Knowledge Bank verticals, WBG Treasury, IFC CFO, Economics, and Risk to ensure alignment of products, clients, and strategies across the institution.
• Represent IFC in Board meetings and external forums to reinforce its global leadership in private sector development and private capital mobilization.

People and Resource Management
• Attract resources, both financial and talent, including hiring and developing diverse talent, to achieve business objectives.
• Provide overall leadership and people management.
• Manage overall budget for the Vice Presidency with a goal to increasing efficiency and effectiveness.

Selection Criteria

In addition to the WBG managerial selection criteria*, the following qualifications are sought:
• Integrity and values: Unquestionable integrity, alignment with the WBG core values, strong work ethics.
• Ability to operationalize: Proven track record of translating broad strategies into specific objectives and action plans and aligning the organization to support strategic priorities; strong understanding of IFC's approach to mobilizing private capital at scale, including the upstream, investment, and advisory operating models, and IFC's evolving role as a distribution platform for mobilizing private capital for emerging market assets.
• Additional role expertise: A Master's degree or equivalent and a minimum of 20 years of relevant applied professional experience; demonstrated track record of results and innovation across private sector investment, advisory, and product development in emerging markets; deep investment experience spanning in equity, debt and capital markets products , with a strong record of mobilizing private capital at scale; and business judgment; strategic thinker with the ability to prioritize effectively and deploy resources optimally;
• Proven capacity to build strong client and partner relationships that deliver development impact in line with IFC 2030 priorities.
• People leadership skills: Demonstrated ability to lead effectively and manage large and dispersed teams in a dynamic and multicultural environment, attract high caliber people and nurturing their development; ability and willingness to make decisions, take accountability and hold others accountable for delivery.
• Collaboration and innovation: Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a matrixed, highly complex and global organization; ability to cultivate an active network of relationships inside and outside the organization. Interest in and ability to drive innovation and change, and to bring together groups that are used to working autonomously to solve problems and make decisions.
• Communication skills: Effective and persuasive oral and written communication skills to work successfully with external stakeholders, clients, as well as with WBG senior management and IFC's Board of Directors, and to represent publicly the IFC and World Bank Group's viewpoints in global forums.
