GENERAL SUMMARYThe vice president/patient care services/chief nursing officer is responsible for directing and setting standards for nursing practice throughout the Hospital and establishing patient care guidelines and a framework of nursing policies and procedures to provide overall guidance and direction to the Patient Care Services Division. This position provides leadership in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the plan for the provision of patient care, philosophy of nursing, policies, standards, and programs that support the clinical practice of nursing and effective nursing care delivery systems throughout the Hospital.
These duties are to be performed in a highly confidential manner, in accordance with the mission, values and behaviors of Insight Hospital and Medical Center, and the attributes of Careful Nursing. Employees are further expected to provide a high quality of care, service, and kindness toward all patients, staff, physicians, volunteers and guests.
DESCRIPTIONA. Essential Duties and Responsibilities1. Assists in overall hospital matters.
a. Functions as a member of the executive team and provides counsel and advice on all aspects of Hospital operations.
b. Maintains a general awareness of Hospital operations, identifies present and potential problems and opportunities, and makes appropriate recommendations to the President.
c. Participates in development of Hospital goals, objectives and strategic planning.
d. Participates in defined and established meetings of the hospital's corporate leaders and with other clinical and managerial leaders.
e. Responsible for special projects and assignments as directed by the President. f. Rotates administrative call as assigned.
2. As the identified nurse leader at the executive level, coordinates the following functions.
a. Development of hospital-wide patient care programs, policies and procedures that describe how patients' nursing care needs, or the needs of patient populations receiving nursing care, treatment and services, are assessed, evaluated, and met, utilizing the attributes of Careful Nursing.
b. Development and implementation of the Hospital's plans for providing nursing care, treatment, and services, to those patients requiring nursing care, treatment, and services.
c. Participating with governing body, management, medical staff, and clinical leaders in the Hospital's decision-making structures and processes.
d. Implementation of an effective, ongoing program to measure, assess, and improve the quality of nursing care, treatment, and services delivered to patients.
3. Maintains a collaborative relationship between Patient Care Services and the Medical Staff both collectively and individually
a. Attends the Medical Staff Executive Committee and selected other medical staff meetings related to the professional care and treatment of patients.
b. Participates in regular and special meetings to improve planning and coordination between PCS and the Medical Staff and to enhance the care delivered to patients.
c. Assumes responsibility for evaluating the quality of patient care service delivery.
d. Works with appropriate Medical Staff personnel to resolve problems and working relationships between physicians and hospital personnel.
4. Administers and provides supervision for patient Care Services.
a. Provides direct supervision for and effective operations of nursing services at the hospital.
b. Provides the vision for creative innovations and approaches to issues within healthcare that directly impact patients, the community and the organization.
c. Participates with subordinates and counsels them in the development of objectives for their areas of responsibility which are consistent with the mission, values and vision of the organization.
d. Develops an appropriate organizational structure, management staff and managerial process for and with Patient Care Services to promote their achievement of the objectives.
e. Plans, organizes and evaluates the administrative and functional activities of Patient Care Services to as to achieve the desired objectives within established financial and operating limits.
f. Provides for appropriate coordination and integration of activities within Patient Care Services with all other departments and services.
g. Defines the functions, responsibilities and authority levels required by all positions directly reporting to her/him, and identifies the qualifications needed by the incumbents.
h. Promotes the professional and personal growth of her subordinates and provides for continuity of management.
i. Establishes financial budgets and other operating controls to insure that assigned departments operate efficiently and effectively while providing necessary services.

IV. JOB SPECIFICATIONSA. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIESKnowledge:• IL RN license
• Bachelor's degree in nursing, master's degree in nursing, business administration or healthcare administration
Skills:• Ten or more years of progressive nursing management experience.
• Demonstrated experience working well with all levels of personnel within an organization
Abilities:• Ability to handle multiple projects and work under time constraints
• Excellent computer skills
