Position Summary

The Vice President of Operations, Retail is responsible for leading all manufacturing and operations activities across the Gibraltar Building Products Retail Manufacturing Operations locations. This role provides end-to-end operational leadership for a multi-site, multi-brand manufacturing footprint, ensuring safe, efficient, and scalable operations that deliver high-quality finished products to retail customers on time and at competitive cost.

Reporting to the SVP of Operations, the Vice President of Operations is a key member of the operations leadership team and plays a central role in driving operational excellence, margin improvement, working capital discipline, and integration of acquired businesses. This leader sets the operational strategy, establishes common standards and systems, and develops high-performing teams capable of supporting both near-term execution and long-term growth.

The position has responsibility across U.S. manufacturing locations and requires significant domestic travel.

Key Responsibilities

Enterprise & Strategic Leadership
  • Serve as a core member of the Gibraltar Building Products Operations leadership team, contributing to business strategy, operating plans, and long-range objectives.
  • Translate business unit strategy into clear operational priorities, performance targets, and execution plans.
  • Establish a consistent operating model across plants while respecting product, customer, and regional requirements.

Manufacturing & Operational Excellence
  • Provide oversight and leadership for all manufacturing operations, including safety, quality, delivery, cost, and productivity.
  • Ensure operations meet or exceed customer requirements, regulatory standards, and Gibraltar quality expectations.
  • Drive Lean manufacturing principles, waste reduction, and continuous improvement initiatives across all facilities.
  • Establish and monitor operational KPIs tied to safety, service, cost, margin, and asset utilization.

Safety, Quality & Compliance
  • Lead a strong safety culture aligned with Gibraltar values, ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Ensure consistent quality systems, processes, and controls are implemented across all manufacturing sites.
  • Champion proactive risk identification and mitigation across operations.

Cost, Capital & Working Capital Management
  • Own the manufacturing operating budget, including labor, overhead, inventory, and capital expenditures.
  • Lead capital planning and prioritization in partnership with Finance and Engineering, ensuring disciplined ROI-based investment decisions.
  • Drive inventory optimization, plant loading, and workforce planning to support service levels while managing working capital.

Technology, Automation & Systems
  • Identify and implement process improvements, automation, and enabling technologies to improve uptime, throughput, and cost performance.
  • Partner with IT and Engineering to implement and optimize ERP, manufacturing, and operational systems.

People & Culture Leadership
  • Lead and develop Regional Operations Directors and Plant Managers, setting clear expectations and accountability.
  • Build a high-engagement, performance-driven culture that is consistent with Gibraltar's values and leadership principles.
  • Ensure robust talent development, succession planning, and performance management across operations.

Integration & Standardization
  • Lead manufacturing and operations integration for acquisitions, including system alignment, process standardization, and cultural integration.
  • Drive standard work, best-practice sharing, and operational consistency across the Building Products platform where appropriate.

Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Direct leadership of plant facing operations leaders with indirect influence of site leadership teams.
  • Functional oversight of Manufacturing Operations, Engineering, and Materials/Supply Chain Management.

Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • 15+ years of progressive manufacturing operations leadership experience; metals manufacturing strongly preferred.
  • Proven experience leading multi-site operations with full P&L, capital, and workforce responsibility.
  • Demonstrated success driving Lean transformation, standardization, and margin improvement at scale.
  • Experience integrating acquired operations is strongly preferred.

  • Strong operational, financial, and analytical acumen with the ability to balance strategy and execution.

Travel & Work Environment
  • Approximately 50% domestic travel required.
