Full Job Description
Position Summary: The Vice President of Credit owns credit policy, approval authority, and underwriting standards for Equify's equipment finance originations. Reporting to the Chief Credit Officer, this leader sets underwriting standards, leads the credit/underwriting team, and brings an industry-facing point of view on equipment finance risk to the organization. This is not just an approver's seat: we are looking for a credit senior leader who will shape how Equify underwrites and prices risk over the next several years.

Key Roles / Responsibilities:

  • Own the credit policy, approval authority matrix, and concentration limits by industry, equipment type, and obligor; refresh them at least annually against loss performance, funding partner eligibility criteria, and market conditions.
  • Build and lead the credit/underwriting team, setting decision quality, turnaround, and professional development standards that support origination growth without eroding portfolio quality.
  • Deliver a monthly portfolio risk review to the Chief Credit Officer covering risk rating migration, vintage/cohort loss performance, delinquency by risk rating, and emerging sector risk, with recommended policy, pricing, or structuring responses.
  • Lead the credit technology and decisioning agenda, including application-only thresholds, scoring, and workflow tooling, so that speed and consistency improve together.
  • Hold individual approval authority within company-defined limits and chair the credit committee for new originations above that threshold, maintaining consistent decision turnaround on complete packages.
  • Set the standard for credit memoranda, including cash flow, collateral, and guarantor analysis, so that approvals are defensible to funding partners and auditors.
  • Own risk rating methodology and portfolio risk rating performance, including migration trends and rank-order validation against actual loss experience, and translate findings into underwriting standard changes.
  • Set advance rate policy by equipment type, age, and condition, using asset management's valuation methodology and residual value guidance as the underlying inputs.
  • Maintain current sector views on various industries, including but not limited to, construction, transportation, energy services, and industrial equipment, and equipment value trends and end-market conditions, and translate them into underwriting guidance.
  • Work with Sales to structure transactions that meet credit standards without losing winnable deals, and with documentation, funding, legal, and accounting to ensure conditions of approval are satisfied before funding.
  • Partner with Collections and the credit-dedicated workout specialist on a standing charge-off and recovery review - charge-off rate, recovery rate, and time-to-resolution by original risk-rating grade - to validate the predictiveness of the rating scale and recalibrate underwriting standards, pricing, and advance-rate policy.
  • Meet directly with larger borrowers, guarantors, and their advisors on complex or relationship-level credits to underwrite management quality and business viability firsthand.
  • Support the Chief Credit Officer - Equify's primary voice to funding partners and the board on credit matters - by handling origination-level credit audits, covenant and eligibility criteria compliance, and due diligence reviews.
  • Represent the credit department in strategic planning, new product and program launches, and cross-functional initiatives.
  • Supervise and develop credit analysts and underwriters through training, coaching, and performance management, with clear expectations for decision quality and turnaround.
  • Build succession depth within the credit team so that approval authority can be delegated as the portfolio grows.

Required Education, Experience, and Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in equipment finance or asset-based credit, including at least 7 years holding individual approval authority and at least 5 years leading a credit team.
  • Proven experience managing an equipment finance portfolio across construction, transportation, industrial or collateral.
  • Demonstrated command of equipment collateral valuation, advance rates, and remarketing risk, including how to translate a third party's valuation methodology and residual assumptions into sound advance-rate policy.
  • Experience owning or materially contributing to credit policy, authority matrices, and concentration frameworks.
  • Direct experience with bank line, warehouse, or securitization credit criteria and the audits and reporting that accompany them.
  • Demonstrated ability to present and defend credit recommendations and portfolio risk to a Chief Credit Officer, credit committee, and - when called upon - funding partners and auditors, including under questioning.
  • Existing visibility in the equipment finance industry through ELFA, NEFA, or similar involvement.
  • Experience applying portfolio analytics or credit scoring to decisioning and pricing.
  • Working knowledge of UCC Article 9 and state commercial financing disclosure laws affecting non-bank lenders.
  • Familiarity with CRM and loan origination systems such as Salesforce for data management and reporting.
  • Advanced Excel skills and familiarity with credit workflow or origination platforms.
  • Ability to travel up to 10%.

Working Conditions:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
  • Positions self to install equipment, including under desks.
  • Moves throughout the building to access files.
  • Must be able to comprehend and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Must be able to complete tasks even with frequent interruptions.
  • Must be able to use discretion and independent judgment as needed.
  • Must be able to speak clearly on the phone and to fellow workers.
