Full Job Description

Role Summary

The VP, Obesity U.S. Market Access reports directly to the VP, U.S. Market Access – Primary Care. This is a new VP-level role established to build dedicated market access capabilities for Pfizer's Obesity portfolio.

Obesity represents a significant growth priority for Pfizer, and the category’s access, patient, and payer dynamics differ materially from Pfizer’s existing brand-support models. This role is being established to build those capabilities directly, rather than extend an existing coverage model to a new category.

This role directly owns access marketing strategy and execution, and owns contracting and pricing strategy for obesity assets, which is executed in coordination with core USMA functions, including strategy, contracting, account management, and market access operations. Throughout execution, the VP ensures work stays aligned with Obesity brand and portfolio objectives.

The VP interfaces directly with the Primary Care BU, partnering closely with the Obesity Franchise Lead on business goals and balancing access investment against gross-to-net (GTN) to maximize net trade sales. The VP is also the single point of contact for Obesity across market access and patient services, reflecting the distinct, higher-touch engagement model Obesity requires as a new frontier for the portfolio.

Role Responsibilities

1. Obesity Access Strategy & Execution Ownership

  • Own end-to-end market access strategy for Obesity assets, from early strategy development through execution, including access strategy, payer marketing, pricing, and contracting in one coherent plan
  • Define the payer value proposition, messaging, and positioning for Obesity assets, tailored to the access barriers and customer dynamics specific to the Obesity category
  • Set and execute pricing and contracting strategy for Obesity assets, balancing access investment against GTN to maximize net trade sales
  • Build and continuously refine the Obesity market access playbook as the category, competitive landscape, and payer response evolve
  • Define and monitor access performance metrics for Obesity, including access quality, access speed, and GTN performance relative to plan

2. BU Partnership & Business Co-Ownership

  • Serve as the direct partner to the Obesity Franchise Lead within the Primary Care BU, jointly owning the balance between brand growth objectives and access/GTN discipline
  • Translate Obesity brand P&L objectives and business goals into access, pricing, and contracting priorities
  • Flag trade-offs between revenue maximization and GTN discipline to the Franchise Lead and USMA-Primary VP, ensuring access decisions reflect enterprise-level economics rather than brand-pressure-driven discounting
  • Represent Obesity access needs into USMAPPS leadership, escalating resourcing gaps or strategic misalignment as the category scales

3. Integrated Access & Patient Services Leadership

  • Serve as the single point of accountability for the Obesity Franchise, bringing together market access and patient services strategies into one coordinated approach that advances patient, customer, and business outcomes.
  • Partner closely with Patient Services on the patient journey, jointly shaping affordability, hub, adherence, and support strategies to ensure patients can access and remain on therapy.
  • Lead the evolution of Obesity patient support capabilities, identifying unique category dynamics, direct patient engagement, affordability considerations, and emerging reimbursement pathways require innovative models beyond traditional approaches.

4. Launch & Market Shaping Readiness

  • Own the access portion of the strategic brand plan for Obesity pipeline assets, ensuring access strategy is integrated into brand planning from early lifecycle stages
  • Build early market-shaping strategy: proactively engaging payers, health systems, and other stakeholders ahead of formulary decisions rather than reacting to them
  • Identify and close access readiness gaps for pipeline Obesity assets, including payer coverage, reimbursement pathways, and formulary positioning
  • Define multi-year market access plans for the Obesity pipeline, incorporating GTN inputs into long-range financial planning

5. Team Leadership & Talent

  • Lead and develop a dedicated Obesity team, including colleagues covering Access Marketing Strategy and Contracting & Pricing
  • Coach team members to operate as strategic owners of their piece of the Obesity portfolio, not coordinators
  • Build the Obesity capability and talent pipeline as the category and team are expected to scale over time
  • Participate as a member of the USMA-Primary leadership structure, contributing Obesity-specific perspective to broader Primary strategy
  • Model Pfizer values and leader behaviors

  • Deep understanding of the US healthcare environment, including payer dynamics, formulary mechanics, and GTN economics
  • Demonstrated experience developing and executing integrated market access plans spanning payer marketing, pricing, and contracting strategy
  • Prior experience in Obesity, cardiometabolic, or another high-growth/high-visibility launch category
  • Experience operating in a fast-evolving or newly established category, with the ability to build strategy and capability without an established playbook
  • Demonstrated business and financial acumen, including the ability to understand brand P&L dynamics and translate them into access investment and GTN trade-off decisions
