Morgan Stanley Human Resources is seeking an experienced Strat/Engineer in New York to lead and evolve how HR leverages data, technology, and automation to drive smarter workforce decisions. This Vice President role partners closely with senior business leaders, HR, and Finance to build scalable, data-driven solutions that improve how HR operates and delivers insight to the business.
What You'll Do in the Role:
As a Human Resources Strat/Engineer, you will design, build, and own the tools and data-driven solutions that power HR decision-making across your assigned functional area. You will combine deep technical capability with strategic thinking - using data engineering, automation, and modern tooling to reshape how workforce and operational data are modeled, visualized, and consumed by senior leadership.
Key Responsibilities
-Design and build data models, applications, and automated workflows that support critical HR and business decisions
- Lead core HR process cycles (e.g., compensation, workforce planning, talent reviews), providing end-to-end technical and analytical support across planning, execution, and governance
- Own workforce analytics, modeling, and competitive benchmarking across assigned HR domains
- Build and maintain automated reporting and data workflows, ensuring both security and recovery mechanisms
- Partner with senior business leadership on workforce planning, hiring strategy, and resource allocation - translating business questions into data-driven answers
- Evaluate and deploy emerging technologies (e.g., GenAI, AI agents, workflow automation) to enhance HR's analytical and operational capabilities
Day-to-Day Focus
- Engineer and maintain scalable data solutions that underpin HR reporting and analytics
- Build and iterate on visualization tools for headcount, workforce expense, hiring, attrition, and other key HR metrics
- Deliver self-service analytics reporting to business unit stakeholders on hires, terms, incumbents, workforce events, and other operational data
- Identify opportunities to improve HR processes through better tooling, automation, and smarter use of available technology and data
- Stay current on cloud platforms, data engineering practices, and AI/ML capabilities relevant to HR
What You'll Bring to the Role:
- Advanced degree in Computer Science or another quantitative discipline
- 6+ years of relevant professional experience
- Experience with cloud platforms (Snowflake, AWS) is an advantage
- Strong analytical mindset with ability to synthesize data from multiple sources into clear insights and recommendations
- Proficient in Python for data analysis, modeling, and automation
- Experience with data visualization tools
- Familiarity with automation or workflow platforms (e.g., Power Platform, UiPath) is a plus
- Strong understanding of data governance, controls, and model validation
- Strong communicator who can explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
- Comfort operating across HR domains and partnering with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment
Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $120,000 and $210,000 per year at
the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
