Full Job Description
The Vice President of Development, reporting to the Senior Vice President of University Advancement, is a member of the senior leadership team for University Advancement. The Vice President oversees the special, major and principal gift fundraising activities for LMU’s schools, colleges, units, and campus priorities and initiatives. The Vice President will also oversee Leadership Gifts, Major Gifts, Principal Gifts, Corporate and Foundation Philanthropy, Family Philanthropy, and Gift Planning, with the senior leader of each team serving as a direct report.

The Vice President will provide leadership to the comprehensive development program and play a key role in revenue generation through donor-centric strategy development for university executive management. Working in close collaboration with Deans, Senior Vice President, Provost, and other unit heads, the Vice President of Development ensures that major fundraising efforts address the unit goals and university priorities. The Vice President leads the annual fundraising planning process in collaboration with department leadership, to establish work plans that outline priorities and goals for individual development officers.

Position Specific Responsibilities/Accountabilities

  • Supervise a senior-level team responsible for the strategy, goal setting, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of special, major and principal level gifts for schools, colleges, and units. Develop annual and multi-year fundraising plans for schools, colleges, and units to support leadership funding priorities that advance key unit and University priorities and initiatives. Achieve annual and campaign goals. (40%)

  • Work closely with SVP, the UA Cabinet, and the entire development team to create a collaborative and connected strategy to develop and grow the entire pipeline of philanthropic support through Alumni and Family Engagement, Annual and Leadership Giving, Major and Principal Giving. (20%)

  • Collaborate with Prospect Research and Management and the Campaign staff/team to monitor the gift pipeline and provide quarterly year-end and campaign forecasts, reports, and analysis. (10%)

  • Develop strong partnerships and relationships with deans and unit heads, serving as a key liaison to University Advancement. Maintain knowledge of all priorities within the University, utilizing intelligence to lead strategy development for donor-centric solicitations. (10%)

  • Participate as a key member of the University Advancement’s leadership team. Assist in broader divisional and campaign planning, administration, and management. (10%)

  • Perform other duties as assigned. (10%)

Requisite Qualifications

  • Typically a Bachelor’s degree; Master’s Degree preferred. Incumbent will be expected to continue upgrading knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to stay current with trends, regulations, and policy.

  • Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible development experience, with at least 5 years’ experience in higher education, preferably at an institution with a donor or alumni base comparable to LMU.

  • Demonstrated high-level expertise and accomplishment in major and principal gifts fundraising with substantial success in closing gifts of $100,000 or more.

  • Highly developed organizational and leadership skills. Extensive supervisory experience of professional staff, inclusive of hiring, training, and evaluation of staff with the ability to oversee all personnel matters within the department.

  • Demonstrated experience building successful, productive relationships with top university administrators, deans, and leadership volunteers. Experience staffing high-level advisory boards and committees. Ability to effectively communicate the vision and mission of Loyola Marymount University.

  • Willingness and ability to travel and work on evenings and weekends to meet with donors/prospects and attend events.

  • Familiarity with fundraising systems and strong command of MS Office Suite of products. Experience with Advance preferred, but not required.

Reasonable Expected Salary:
$225,000 - $245,000/annually
