This position will be primarily responsible for:
  • Assisting project management staff by providing engineering design, construction management, contract oversight, and field inspections.
  • Interfacing with District staff in other service groups, utility agencies, consultants, contractors, and other governmental agencies to clarify and resolve engineering design and construction and problems.
  • Participating in continuous improvement by evaluating construction phase issues and integrating lessons learned into District practices and procedures.
  • Ensuring construction contractor conformance of the construction documents, and resolving contractual and field conflicts encountered.
  • Contributing to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team.
Utility Engineer I: $42.97 - $62.30 Hourly

Utility Engineer II: $47.27 - $68.54 Hourly
This recruitment will establish an Open Competitive Eligibility list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months or may be extended as needed by Human Resources.

The Utility Engineer I is a flex position. Upon successful completion of the training program and meeting the minimum qualifications of the higher-level class, to include obtaining any required certifications and/or licenses, the successful candidate will be non-competitively promoted to Utility Engineer II.
Education and Experience:
  • Utility Engineer I:
    • Bachelor's Degree in an appropriate engineering discipline (such as Civil / Mechanical / Industrial / Electrical / Chemical / Construction Management).
  • Utility Engineer II:In addition to the above:
    • Two (2) years of experience in engineering, preferably water/wastewater.
    • Full-time professional experience in a related field may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis, up to a maximum of two (2) years.
Licenses/Certifications:
  • Specified positions may require possession of a valid Nevada Class C driver's license at time of appointment.
  • Utility Engineer II:
  • Preference may be given to those holding a Nevada Engineer-in-Training Certificate
Background Investigation:
  • Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation. Additional background investigations may be conducted periodically after employment.
Pre-Employment Drug Testing:
  • Employment is contingent upon the results of a pre-employment drug examination.
