Description

GPI seeks an experienced Utility Engineer to lead utility relocation and coordination efforts for transportation infrastructure projects in our Bridgewater, NJ, office. The ideal candidate will bring technical expertise in utility coordination, a thorough understanding of regulatory compliance, and the ability to resolve conflicts efficiently in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.

Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate with utility companies, internal design teams, contractors, and stakeholders to develop and implement comprehensive utility relocation and utility protection plans.
  • Review and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and utility relocation designs to ensure compliance with project goals and regulatory standards.
  • Identify and resolve conflicts between existing/proposed utility infrastructure and transportation design elements.
  • Coordinate with outside vendors to perform utility test pits.
  • Review working drawings and RFI's to facilitate utility relocations during construction.
  • Prepare and maintain thorough documentation, including technical reports, relocation schedules, meeting minutes, and correspondence.
  • Ensure utility coordination aligns with NJDOT, NJTA, and other relevant agency standards, regulations, and best practices.
  • Provide technical support on utility design, permitting, coordination, and relocation strategies throughout all project phases.
  • Lead and participate in meetings with utility providers, regulatory agencies, and contractors to address utility-related challenges.
  • Track project progress, ensuring utility components are completed on time and within budget.
  • Monitor industry trends, technological advances, and regulatory changes impacting utility engineering and transportation infrastructure.


Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering (BSCE) or comparable degree
  • A Professional Engineer (PE) license in New Jersey, or the ability to obtain it within one year of hire, is preferred.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across disciplines
  • Sound organizational skills, time management, and the ability to work in a team environment are a must
  • Proficiency using CADD (AutoCAD or MicroStation)


Requirements

  • Maintain a valid driver's license with a clean motor vehicle report (MVR) for final consideration
  • Read, write, and understand plans and directions given in the English language
  • Basic computer skills with the ability to create and edit Microsoft Word and Excel documents, create Outlook emails and utilize SharePoint and Microsoft Teams to communicate with other team members
  • Able to traverse a construction job site consisting of uneven ground varying in height and consistency of material, with a variation of elevation 19" or less (mud, gravel, rutted ground, etc.)
  • Able to wear GPI required PPE, i.e., hard hats, safety vest, work boots, and/or safety glasses/goggles while working
