The Position

The Network Administrator is responsible for maintaining and supporting the City's IT infrastructure, including networks, servers, and related technologies. This role ensures the efficient and secure operation of the City's network and data communication systems, supporting a wide range of departments and services. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

Network Management:
• Install, configure, and maintain network hardware (routers, switches, firewalls) and software.
• Monitor network performance to ensure smooth operation, reliability, and optimal security.
• Troubleshoot and resolve network-related issues, ensuring minimal downtime and disruption.
• Maintain the integrity of the City's LAN/WAN and wireless networks.

Server Administration:
• Install, configure, and maintain servers (physical and virtual) supporting various City services.
• Perform regular system updates, patch management, and security configuration of servers.
• Monitor server performance and storage, ensuring proper capacity planning.
Network Security:
• Implement and maintain security protocols, including firewalls, VPNs, and intrusion detection/prevention systems.
• Conduct regular security assessments to identify vulnerabilities and recommend solutions.
• Monitor and respond to potential security breaches or incidents in a timely manner.

Technical Support:
• Provide technical support for network and system issues to City employees.
• Assist with setting up new workstations, configuring network connections, and managing access control.
• Coordinate with third-party vendors and service providers for equipment or support when necessary.

Documentation & Compliance:
• Maintain detailed documentation of network configurations, policies, and procedures.
• Ensure the City's IT systems comply with relevant regulations, policies, and best practices.
• Assist in disaster recovery planning and testing to ensure business continuity.

Other Duties:
• Evaluate and recommend new network technologies and upgrades.
• Participate in IT-related projects, collaborating with team members and departments.
• Attend professional development opportunities to stay current with new technologies.
Acceptable Experience, Training, Certifications and Licenses

Education:
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

Experience:
• At least 3 years of experience in network administration or a related role.
• Experience working with Cisco, Juniper, or similar networking equipment.
• Experience with Windows Server, Linux, or virtualized environments (VMware/Hyper-V).

Certifications:
• Network+ or equivalent certification (required).
• Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or higher (preferred).
• Microsoft Certified: Windows Server (preferred).
Supplemental Information

• Strong knowledge of network infrastructure, routing, and switching.
• Proficiency in network security protocols and firewalls.
• Familiarity with virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V).
