Role summary:

As a Senior Data Scientist at Walmart, you will leverage advanced analytical techniques and domain expertise to transform complex data into actionable business insights. This role involves developing, validating, and deploying scalable models that support strategic decision-making across multiple business functions. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify data sources, ensure data quality, and apply innovative machine learning and statistical methods. Your expertise will guide the design of effective data visualizations and influence business outcomes, while mentoring colleagues and driving continuous improvement in data science practices aligned with Walmart's operational goals.
About the team:

The Personalization Data Science team develops advanced machine learning and AI-driven solutions to enhance member engagement, retention, and business growth across Sam's Club. The team builds and maintains Next Best Action models, personalized recommendation systems, and churn prediction models across multiple business domains. Leveraging techniques such as Large Language Models and agentic AI, the team improves recommendation quality, content understanding, and autonomous decision-making. This group drives innovation by creating scalable, intelligent customer experiences that power personalized interactions across various customer touchpoints, contributing significantly to the personalization ecosystem's success.
What you'll do:
  • Identify and source relevant data from various business domains and databases, ensuring data quality and suitability for analysis.
  • Develop, test, and deploy advanced analytical models using programming languages such as Python and SQL to solve complex business problems.
  • Perform exploratory data analysis, feature engineering, and model validation to optimize predictive accuracy and robustness.
  • Create clear, insightful data visualizations and reports to communicate findings effectively to stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align data strategies with business objectives and support scalable model deployment.
  • Mentor junior associates in data science methodologies and best practices.

What you'll bring:
  • Extensive experience in data science, machine learning, and advanced analytical modeling techniques.
  • Proficiency in Python programming, LLM, data engineering, feature engineering, and deep learning frameworks.
  • Strong knowledge of data visualization tools and best practices to effectively communicate insights.
  • Expertise in data source identification, data quality assessment, and data strategy implementation.
  • Ability to develop, test, validate, and deploy scalable analytical models in production environments.
  • Solid understanding of business domains to translate complex problems into data-driven solutions.
  • Proven capability to mentor and guide junior associates in modeling and analytics methodologies.

The annual salary range for this position is $117,000.00 - $234,000.00

Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.

Additional compensation for certain positions may also include Regional Pay Zone (RPZ) (based on location).
