Full Job Description
IMC is seeking an experienced operational leader to join our growing US Equities desk in New York as Chief Operating Officer. As we build and scale this business, the Equities COO will serve as the right hand to the Desk Head, ensuring the desk operates efficiently, communicates effectively, and stays focused on both short- and long-term goals. This is a high-visibility, high-impact role that sits at the intersection of trading, strategy, operations, and people - acting as a force multiplier for the Desk Head and ensuring the desk's most critical priorities move forward with speed and clarity.

This role focuses on driving strategic execution, managing the desk's operating rhythm, and strengthening team culture and cross-functional coordination. You will apply structured problem-solving to complex business challenges, lead high-priority initiatives, and represent the desk across internal and external stakeholders. The position provides meaningful ownership and broad organizational impact from day one. Compensation is competitive and aligned with individual contribution.

Your Core Responsibilities:
  • Serve as a trusted partner to the Desk Head, driving the desk's highest-priority initiatives and ensuring alignment across trading, technology, risk, and business support teams.
  • Apply structured problem-solving to evaluate opportunities, assess risks, and drive data-informed solutions in close collaboration with desk and firm leadership.
  • Lead or contribute to high-priority projects such as product expansions, business planning cycles, and operational improvement programs.
  • Own goal tracking and milestones, ensuring communication processes are completed as goals are achieved or priorities shift.
  • Build and apply substantive knowledge of market structure, competitive dynamics, and regulatory developments to shape the desk's strategic priorities.
  • Own the operating rhythm of the desk - meetings, action items, goal tracking, and cross-functional workstreams - and continuously identify opportunities to improve efficiency, communication, and scalability.
  • Represent desk leadership within and outside of the team through high-quality communication.
  • Oversee onboarding for new hires and transfers by coordinating logistics and delivering a smooth and consistent experience.
  • Actively monitor and assess team culture and dynamics, serving as a sounding board to desk leadership on organizational needs.
  • Work with stakeholders and the recruitment team to coordinate and improve recruitment pipelines.

Your Skills and Experience:
  • 5+ years of experience in roles requiring strong stakeholder management, cross-functional execution, and structured problem-solving, such as management consulting at a top-tier firm.
  • Corporate strategy or COO experience at a financial services or technology firm is a strong plus.
  • Exceptionally high emotional intelligence: self-aware, adaptable, and effective at building trust and navigating complex interpersonal dynamics across all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to take ownership and deliver results in unstructured and ambiguous environments.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to craft compelling narratives and tailor messaging to different audiences.
  • Strong STEM background strongly preferred (Physics, Math, Econometrics, or equivalent).
  • Equities or broader financial markets experience is a plus but not a prerequisite - intellectual curiosity and the ability to ramp up quickly matter more.
