About the roleWe are looking for a subject matter expert in US payroll and tax compliance. In this role, you will work directly with our R&D teams to define and pressure test software requirements for Rippling's US payroll product and internal tooling. Additionally, you will drive key compliance processes such as account audits, regulatory requirements documentation, and collaboration with Rippling's Tax Operations team.
You will serve alongside our small but mighty Payroll Compliance team whose objective is to ensure that Rippling's payroll and tax systems remain best-in-class and compliant with changing tax laws across the nation. Your work will immediately touch hundreds of thousands of employees and billions in fund flows.
What you will do- Define product requirements to meet both existing and new payroll / tax regulatory changes
- Define and execute audit processes to validate payroll calculations and ensure compliance of Rippling's payroll system
- Document and communicate regulatory requirements and changes to internal stakeholders; think of yourself as a resident expert in payroll and tax compliance within Rippling. This is a role that touches all customer facing and R&D teams
- Proactively research and stay up to date with payroll tax regulations and rules
- Be Rippling's point of contact and liaison with federal, state and local tax agencies
- Own all payroll compliance functions related to assigned states, ensuring the Rippling system remains fully compliant with local regulations
What you will need- 5+ years of experience in payroll tax and compliance positions
- CPP Certification preferred
- Experience with working with Product and Engineering teams; preferably experience building payroll software at different stages of maturity. You are able to distill complex payroll concepts into actionable and practical steps
- Experience working at a high growth startup. Specifically, you know how to operate in a dynamic work environment and you are not uncomfortable with competing priorities
- Experience collaborating with US federal, state, and local tax agencies
- Excellent research skills
- Stellar written and verbal communication skills
- Exceptional attention to detail
- Strong end-to-end project management, time management, and organizational skills
- Entrepreneurial mindset (flexible, self-starting, and hard-working)
