Job Duties

As the Unit Coordinator, this position plays a key role in supporting strong performance and a positive work environment, while delivering and ensuring high quality geriatric patient care. This position will provide clear daily guidance, offer regular feedback, provide coaching as necessary, and handle performance management of staff. The Unit Coordinator will collaborate with clinical and support teams as well as participating in treatment team meetings and hospital committees as assigned.

This position primarily works day shift; however, the Unit Coordinator is expected to provide leadership support based on operational needs. Responsibilities include oversight of the assigned nursing unit, occasional evening supervisory coverage, and participation in the House Supervisor rotation, which includes approximately every fourth or fifth weekend and assigned holidays.

Minimum Qualifications

Considerable knowledge of geriatric and psychiatric/mental health nursing; supervisory/administrative principles and practices; basic budgeting and accounting; and legal requirements affecting Nursing services. Considerable ability to assess a changing patient environment and manage the therapeutic milieu. Considerable skills in advanced nursing procedures. Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively to evaluate clinical program and staff performance, to develop and refine standards of care, and to establish operational procedures and priorities. Ability to work as a member of an interdisciplinary treatment team. A typical day includes: walking and/or standing for up to 8 hours or more; bending and lifting, transporting patients in geri-chairs and wheelchairs. This position requires some shift work and the ability to work overtime hours when required. May be exposed to aggressive psycho-geriatric patients.

Additional Considerations

BSN preferred.
ANCC Certification in Adult Psychiatric or Mental Health Nursing preferred.
ANCC Certification in Geriatric Nursing strongly preferred.
