Full Job Description
We are currently hiring for 2 Mine Production Supervisors to join the team at our Underground Salt Mine in Goderich, Ontario. This is not a fly in/fly out location.

Compass Minerals' Goderich Salt Mine, located 1,800 feet under Lake Huron, is the largest underground salt mine in the world. The mine is as deep as the CN Tower in Toronto is tall. The rock salt produced at the mine is used to keep citizens in North America safe as they travel through winter snow and ice. The salt is shipped to hundreds of communities around the Great Lakes and along the St. Lawrence Seaway. Some of the salt is trucked to the Compass Minerals plant less than 4 kilometers away, to be packaged for distribution and sale at retailers in North America. The salt is also sold in bulk to manufacturers that make plastics, detergents, disinfectants and other important products. Goderich is named Canada's Prettiest Town and is best known for its stunning sunsets. Goderich is a lakeside community of 8,000 people located approximately 1.5 hours from London and Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario.

How will you contribute to the team?

Following the mine plan, the Mining Supervisor is accountable for the safe, efficient and quality of work performed by the Mining Team. The successful applicant must be capable of modifying the shift's plan as required, and ensuring the maximization of resources. Leads the mining team in all safety and production related matters. Accurately completes shift logs and reports. Performs weekly and monthly safety audits. Promotes and monitors the use of Safety Systems and Tools.

  • Ensure that you as the supervisor follow procedural due diligence and crew members know and follow the company's policies, procedures and standards for work and safety, and the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations for Mines and Mining Plants. This also includes support and contractor personnel.
  • Attend safety and production planning meetings.
  • Set and achieve production targets in accordance with the company's stated goals and objectives.
  • Direct Processing, Services, Ground Control, Production and Development personnel and equipment to maximize their performance and production. This includes the assignment of equipment and the supervision of its use and working condition.
  • Maintain an accurate shift log for the purpose of communicating reliable production and safety information, as required. The log will include explanation for the variances from target. Track, analyze and report all variances to operations with appropriate action plans to the Mine Superintendent.
  • Complete pre-shift and post-shift communication to relay critical information to the relieving supervisor.
  • Enter daily crew absences in time management system.
  • Recommend training programs for direct-reporting staff and crew members.
  • Conduct probationary employee performance appraisals.
  • Verify that proper tagging and lockout procedures are being followed, as required.
  • Perform weekly and monthly safety audits as well as promote and monitor the use of Safety Systems and Tools.
  • Daily identify and examine all new or unusual working conditions for safety. Verify equipment pre-operation inspections and the Safety System reporting tools per shift. Involve workers in making decisions concerning best and safest work practices, including appropriate PPE is being utilized for the assigned task. Ensure that non-routine tasks are identified and safe procedures developed and communicated to all involved employees prior to the start of the operation.
    • Advise all workers of actual or potential risks to a worker's health or safety.
    • Take every reasonable action to ensure the health and safety of all workers
    • Encourage worker input into production, best working practices and health and safety improvements.
    • Investigate all accidents, incidents and occurrences and complete reports immediately
  • Ensure required supplies, tools and appropriate safety equipment are on hand and delivered to the correct work site.
  • Execute routine checks of the refuge stations, explosive storage and fire suppression equipment, in accordance with EHS&S and site policies and procedures.
  • Liaise with maintenance, engineering, EHS&S, logistics and other departments.
  • Follow company procedures for reporting mechanical or electrical malfunctions and ordering appropriate maintenance support.
  • Verify the accuracy and appropriateness of all work orders.
  • Verify the preparation, accuracy and delivery of time-worked records.
  • Know, be in compliance with, and apply the provision of the Collective Agreement
  • Discipline personnel in supervisor's charge in a fair manner consistent with company policy
  • Ensure Mine Rescue personnel are made available for training, as scheduled.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

  • Supervisory Common Core
  • Previous Technologist experience or as a Mine Supervisor

What is the work schedule?

  • This position requires to work a schedule that meets operational demand, including but not limited to, day and night shifts.
