Full Job Description

Schwab’s Personal Trust Services organization delivers trust and fiduciary solutions that help clients and beneficiaries navigate important life events with confidence. As a Trust Settlement Officer, you will play a key role in guiding trust settlement activities, helping ensure assets are administered and distributed in accordance with governing documents, fiduciary obligations, and firm procedures.

 

This role requires strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and decision-making skills to evaluate legal and financial information, manage risk, and resolve complex trust settlement matters. You will collaborate with beneficiaries, attorneys, tax professionals, trust officers, and internal partners to coordinate settlement activities, support timely trust closures, and deliver a positive client experience. Success in this role comes from balancing multiple priorities, adapting to changing circumstances, applying sound judgment, and fostering effective relationships while navigating sensitive fiduciary and estate-related situations.

What you have

Required qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience administering trust accounts and managing fiduciary relationships, typically gained through 5+ years of personal trust administration or related fiduciary experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher
  • Strong knowledge of trust administration principles and practical experience administering trust accounts
  • Ability to read, interpret, and explain wills, trusts, and other legal documents
  • Strong understanding of estate, gift, and GST tax provisions, including funding formulas
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy, documentation quality, and follow-through
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with beneficiaries, estate attorneys, executors, personal representatives, tax partners, and internal stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience administering trusts governed by Delaware and Nevada law
  • Experience with inherited IRAs and trusteed IRAs
  • Experience preparing or coordinating estate notices, tax filings, receipt and release documents, and trust termination documentation
  • Demonstrated risk mitigation and decision-making skills when evaluating trust activity, distributions, and fiduciary matters
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving abilities in a trust, estate, legal, or financial services environment
  • Ability to collaborate across trust, tax, legal, operations, and client-facing teams while adapting to changing priorities
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and contribute to special projects as needed
