Support transportation-related EHS initiatives and compliance programs.
Position SummaryThe Transportation Safety Manager serves as a key Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) resource for FreshDirect's transportation operations. This role supports the execution and continuous improvement of transportation safety programs, DOT/FMCSA compliance, driver safety and performance, accident prevention, telematics, and Drug & Alcohol Program administration.
What You'll DoTransportation Safety & Compliance- Support transportation EHS initiatives through audits, inspections, and risk assessments across fleet operations.
- Monitor OSHA and DOT/FMCSA compliance, and partner with Transportation leadership on risk-reduction initiatives.
- Review and improve safety policies and procedures, and maintain accurate records and regulatory documentation.
Accident Investigation & Driver Safety- Investigate vehicle accidents, injuries, and near misses to identify root causes and recommend corrective actions.
- Support Accident Review Boards, consistent event classification, and tracking of corrective actions through completion.
- Identify higher-risk drivers using accident history, telematics, and performance data, and partner with Transportation leadership and driver trainers on targeted coaching plans.
- Partner with the EHS Training Manager on driver safety program administration, including training, toolbox talks, and compliance education.
DOT Compliance & Drug and Alcohol Program Administration- Serve as primary EHS liaison for DOT and Drug & Alcohol Safety Programs, administering required testing (pre-employment, random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, return-to-duty, follow-up).
- Coordinate with third-party administrators, collection sites, MROs, and SAP providers, and monitor driver qualification and certification requirements.
- Maintain confidential program records and support DOT/FMCSA audits, inspections, and corrective action plans.
- Provide guidance to managers on DOT and Drug & Alcohol compliance requirements and procedures.
Samsara, Metrics & Risk Analytics- Analyze Samsara telematics and safety trends to identify risk and coaching opportunities.
- Maintain safety dashboards and translate data trends into actionable recommendations for EHS and Transportation leadership.
What You'll BringQualifications• Bachelor's degree in EHS, Occupational Safety, Transportation Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or related field (or equivalent experience); 3+ years of progressive safety experience, preferably in transportation, fleet, logistics, dispatch operation or distribution.
• Strong knowledge of OSHA, DOT/FMCSA, and commercial motor vehicle safety requirements, including DOT Drug & Alcohol testing; program administration experience preferred.
• Experience with safety audits, risk assessments, accident investigations, and corrective-action follow-up.
• Experience using safety data, KPIs, and trend analysis to identify risk and drive improvement.
• Strong organizational, analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills; able to work independently, manage priorities, and handle confidential information appropriately.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and safety/compliance management systems.
Preferred- Experience with Samsara or comparable telematics/fleet safety technology.
- Experience with driver qualification and DOT compliance programs.
- CDL A or B license
