Job Description

The Senior Planning Engineer leads Con Edisons Transmission Planning initiatives to support New York States clean energy goals. This role involves developing and overseeing bulk electric system studies, recommending transmission upgrades, and providing technical expertise to ensure system reliability. The engineer will collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders, including NYISO, to integrate renewable resources and innovative technologies into the transmission network.

This position does not provide employment pursuant to the terms of a STEM OPT Training Plan.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities
  • Lead adoption of New York State clean energy requirements into Con Edisons Transmission Master Plan.
  • Develop and oversee short and long-term bulk electric system studies for renewable integration, including offshore wind, solar, and energy storage.
  • Perform advanced thermal, voltage, short-circuit, and stability analyses to maintain system reliability.
  • Design and recommend transmission system modifications to accommodate new technologies and improve performance.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance in evaluating reliability benefits of proposed projects.
  • Coordinate, review, and execute interconnection studies for company-owned projects.
  • Interface with NYISO and other entities to align local and bulk transmission planning efforts.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements, including NERC guidelines.


Qualifications

Required Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Power Engineering and 8 years of engineering work experience in planning, design and/or operation of the bulk electrical transmission system. or
  • Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Power Engineering and 6 years of work experience in planning, design and/or operation of the bulk electrical transmission system.
Relevant Work Experience
  • Practical experience in the design and /or operation of the electric power system, required.
  • Proficiency using PSS/E, TARA, Aspen or equivalent power system simulation programs, required.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Driver's License Required
Additional Physical Demands
  • The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
