Job Description

The Planning Engineer plays a key role in advancing Con Edisons Transmission Planning initiatives to support New York States clean energy goals. This position involves developing bulk electric system studies, designing transmission upgrades, and ensuring system reliability through technical analysis. The engineer will collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders, including NYISO, to integrate renewable resources and innovative technologies into the transmission network.

This position does not provide employment pursuant to the terms of a STEM OPT Training Plan.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities
  • Participate in incorporating New York State clean energy requirements into Con Edisons Transmission Master Plan.
  • Develop short and long-term bulk electric system studies for renewable integration, including offshore wind, solar, and energy storage.
  • Conduct thermal, voltage, short-circuit, and stability analyses to maintain system reliability.
  • Design and develop transmission system modifications to accommodate new technologies.
  • Evaluate and analyze reliability benefits of proposed projects.
  • Perform interconnection studies for company-owned projects.
  • Collaborate with NYISO and other stakeholders to substantiate local and bulk transmission planning efforts.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements, including NERC guidelines.


Qualifications

Required Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Power Engineering or Electrical Engineering and A minimum of three years of engineering work experience in the planning, design, and/or operation of the bulk electric transmission system.
Relevant Work Experience
  • Knowledge of the design and /or operation of the electric power system, required.
  • Competency in using PSS/E, TARA, Aspen or equivalent power system simulation programs, required.
Skills and Abilities
  • Demonstrated analytical skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Effective interpersonal skills
  • Develops and delivers effective presentations
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint, etc.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Driver's License Required
Additional Physical Demands
  • The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
