Transmission Data Analytics Manager

The Transmission Data Analytics Manager will lead a team responsible for advancing analytics, reporting, and decision-support capabilities across the Southern Company Transmission organization. This role will translate Transmission business needs into practical solutions that improve reliability, strengthen operational performance, support capital and operational planning, and enable consistent data-guided decision making.

The manager will provide leadership, coaching, and development for analytics professionals while partnering with Power Delivery, Transmission, Technology Organization, and vendor stakeholders to manage demand, deliver high-quality solutions, and align analytics work with broader business objectives.

This position will be filled at an exempt level 8, with potential progression to level 9.

Job Experience & Education
  • Bachelor's/Associates Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Technology or related degree
  • Experience with leading, motivating, and coaching cross-functional teams
  • Experience working across functional areas involving multiple business functions
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, competitive organization, spanning various disciplines including applications, infrastructure, and business support roles

Preferred Experience
  • Experience leading inside the Power Delivery Organization or Technology Organization
  • Experience leading inside the Transmission Organization
  • Experience with project management including large complex transmission projects, managing technology, product lifecycles or technology roadmaps
  • Comprehensive experience with implementing analytics solutions using one or more toolsets including (but not limited to) Microsoft, Databricks, and/or Oracle analytics solutions


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Proven ability to manage complex initiatives, prioritize competing demands, and deliver results on time and within budget
  • Demonstrated skills in verbal and written communication; ability to make presentations to varying levels of employees and audiences
  • Ability to build productive relationships with business, technology, and vendor partners through cooperation and teamwork
  • Demonstrated leadership competencies in change management, critical thinking, decision-making, strategic planning, influencing, and team leadership
  • Mature problem-solving skills: ability to understand technology issues and translate to business context
  • Strong customer service focus and working knowledge of the electric utility industry
  • Knowledge of data migration and integration

Job Responsibilities

The Transmission Data Analytics Manager will balance stakeholder demand, team capacity, and delivery priorities across key analytics activities, including:
  • Measuring, reporting, and interpreting power reliability indexes
  • Supplying PD organization with strategic projects and insights to reduce O&M, improve reliability, and implement data-guided decision making
  • Providing ad-hoc reports and analyses to upper-level leadership in PD and APC
  • Measuring, reporting, and interpreting workforce resource allocations and analyses
  • Provide technical leadership and subject matter expertise on data analytics best practices, standards, and solution delivery
  • Establish and manage operational processes for request intake, prioritization, assignment, process improvement, and efficient BI/analytics solution delivery
  • Attract, develop, and manage a highly effective, diverse team that delivers analytics solutions with quality, timeliness, and measurable business value
  • Scope, develop, package, and deliver business intelligence and analytics solutions that meet stakeholder needs for functionality, quality, cost, and timely delivery
  • Maintain strong partnerships with business, technology, and strategic vendor partners to support effective solution delivery
  • Seek opportunities to market the capabilities of the Data Analytics & Reporting group through informational sessions, planned meetings, technology demonstrations and formal presentations as needed
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies; seek connections with other leaders within the electric utility industry responsible for data analytics in their organizations
  • Develop and use analytics platforms that integrate data from operational systems such as VM, Customer Service, Outage Data, EMS, GIS, TEAMS, P6, and STOMPS to create actionable insights and visualizations for Transmission and Distribution stakeholders
  • Support budget planning, forecast potential financial impacts, and manage strategic vendor relationships tied to project commitments, consulting needs, and enterprise data initiatives
  • Serve as a BI subject matter expert by assessing business needs and aligning them to appropriate data, reporting, and analytics solution architectures
