Who YOU are and what YOU can becomeTooling Design Engineers are the bridge between the design team and the production floor. In this role you will work with project focused manufacturing engineers, quality, operations, and suppliers to develop, define, and fabricate the tooling required to build, assemble, transport, and inspect the structures being manufactured at ST Engineering MRAS.
What YOU will do- Work with other process engineers, quality, and operations to define design requirements, production methodology, and tooling concepts.
- Design a wide variety of tooling to support composite bonding, trimming, assembly, inspection, and transport.
- Create and maintain detailed models (3D) and drawings (2D) that fully document the tool design using Catia V5.
- Support in-house and external vendors during tooling manufacturing, design reviews, and final buy off.
- Ensure tooling complies with engineering specifications, industry standards, and best practices.
- Support new product design reviews to ensure DFM and DFA and provide technical insight.
Skills:
- Design - develops products from concept to reality, preferrable in tool and/or manufacturing equipment design.
- Strong CATIA V5 background - ability to work with complex surface geometries, large assemblies, to design in context, and create clear and effective drawings that fully describe the geometry, materials, and other requirements.
- Detail oriented - Submits a well thought-out, clearly documented, and robustly modeled product.
- Perform engineering calculations, tolerance stack-ups, define GD&T, material selection
- Preferred experience working with composite material processes (lay-up, bagging, trimming).
- Critical Thinking:
- Troubleshoot engineering issues that are affecting part quality, cost and/or function.
- Balance requirements, cost, and schedule to meet goals.
- Perform tradeoff studies to select an optimum approach.
- Communication:
- Effectively liaison with other functional groups with potentially conflicting priorities
- Create clear engineering documentation in support of manufacturing activities
- Hands-on/mechanical aptitude - willingness to step away from the desk and work with operators to fully understand situations or support engineering development work.
What YOU must bring to Succeed- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a relevant engineering discipline or relevant work experience, training, and skills in lieu of degree.
- 5+ years of engineering experience in manufacturing and/or product design.
- Experience working with composite material processes (lay-up, bagging, trimming) is preferred.
- This position involves access to export-controlled technology which requires U.S. Person status or government authorization. A 'U.S. Person,' as defined by 22 C.F.R. a7120.62, includes U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, individuals lawfully admitted for permanent residence (green card holders), and individuals granted asylum or refugee status in the United States. To be considered for this position, you must either be a U.S. Person or fall within a legally recognized export control exception or authorization. Estimate salary range for this role: $64,400 to $95,900 per year. ST Engineering MRAS considers several factors with extending job offers, including but not limited to candidates' key skills, relevant work experience, education/training/certification, job level, and work location. Base salary is only one component of our competitive Total Rewards package.
