About This RoleThe Engineering team is responsible for the design, development, and continuous improvement of fire extinguisher products and related safety devices. This includes new product development, productivity improvements, sustainability initiatives, and research into emerging technologies. The team ensures compliance with agency requirements and supports cross-functional collaboration to deliver high-quality, cost-effective, and innovative solutions.
Key ResponsibilitiesNew Product Development (NPD)
- Develop new products based on Product Management and Marketing/Sales requirements.
- Ensure compliance with customer, agency, and governmental standards.
- Define and execute design plans for NPD projects.
Productivity Projects
- Support Product redesign initiatives to achieve cost reductions.
- Drive improvements in efficiency and profitability through engineering solutions.
Sustaining Projects
- Provide technical support for operations, including product updates and issue resolution.
- Maintain and update product documentation as needed.
Research & Development (R&D)
- Investigate and evaluate new technologies for fire extinguishers and related safety products.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to bring innovative solutions to market.
Engineering Responsibilities
- Ensure product reliability through design validation, durability testing, and continuous improvement.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant agency and regulatory requirements.
- Define design plans for NPD, productivity, sustaining, and R&D projects.
- Create, maintain, and review technical documentation, including:
- Engineering BOM
- Drawings
- FMEA
- DVP
- Design guides
- Prepare and manage lab test requests and reports (validation, durability, compliance), and ensure proper execution of test protocols with internal/external labs.
- Drive field reliability investigations (defect analysis, corrective actions) and report out to stakeholders.
- Coordinate engineering activities across projects and departments.
Basic Qualifications - Bachelor's Degree
- 2+ years of product design and development experience, preferably in safety and consumer products.
- 2+ years of experience with CAD design and engineering documentation tools.
- 2+ years of experience utilizing MS Office, Teams, SharePoint, OneNote, Visio, PDF tools, and AI tools for analysis/automation
Preferred Qualifications - Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- Knowledge of regulatory standards and agency compliance requirements.
- Proficiency in CAD software and engineering documentation tools.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
- Clear communication of project development status, risks, safety considerations, product reliability, design changes, and updates.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams (Operations, Quality, Regulatory, Marketing).
- Ability to prepare and present technical reports for lab tests, field defect analysis, and benchmarking studies.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks CAD for design and modeling.
- Experience with PDM Windchill for product data management.
- Ability to consult and navigate JDE ERP system for engineering and production data.
Compensation and Benefits Individuals may be eligible for an annual performance bonus based on both individual and company's performance.
