Job Description:
Develop tooling concepts and support equipment for new and existing programs.
Design tooling and equipment, including engineering drawings, inspection requirements, and verification plans.
Review designs for manufacturability, fit, form, and function.
Identify and mitigate safety risks in accordance with company and government standards.
Create layouts of complex assemblies and detailed structural parts.
Develop preliminary layouts, sketches, notes, and supporting design documentation.
Interface with internal customers and design review teams to ensure design requirements are met.
Coordinate with manufacturing, operations, and process engineering to support quality, delivery, and cost objectives.
Manage tooling projects, including cost, schedule, procurement, and fabrication activities.
Review completed layouts and drawings for clarity, completeness, dimensional accuracy, and compliance with engineering standards.
Identify design errors, omissions, and recommend improvements to engineering teams.
Support vendors during tooling fabrication and inspect completed tooling for drawing compliance.
Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and proactive problem-solving efforts.
Support investigations involving root cause analysis, non-conformances, and process failures.
Must Haves:
Experience with NX CAD and CATIA design tools.
Knowledge of manufacturing, fabrication processes, and machine shop practices.
Experience with drawing release criteria, engineering documentation, and design standards.
Knowledge and application of GD&T (ASME Y14.5-2018) .
Knowledge and application of drawing weld symbols.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Strong attention to technical detail.
Bachelor's Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline with 2+ years of relevant engineering experience .
Preferred:
Experience in an aerospace manufacturing environment.
Experience designing and fabricating special tooling and support equipment.
Experience with tooling used in composite part manufacturing.
Ability to evaluate vendor capabilities for tooling and aerospace production.
Experience developing tooling Statements of Work (SOW) and design estimates.
Experience with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems.
Strong project management and organizational skills.
Experience performing stress analysis using hand calculations and FEMAP/NASTRAN .
Professional Engineering (PE) License.
Current Active DoD Secret Clearance with an investigation or periodic review within the last 5 years.
Education/Experience:
Requires a Bachelor's Degree in a STEM discipline with 2+ years of relevant engineering experience .
