Chipton-Ross is seeking a Design Engineer 2 for a contract opportunity in El Segundo, CA.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS (REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE)

  • Bachelors Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline and a minimum of 2 years relevant engineering experience
  • Experience with industry standard design tools including NX CAD & CATIA
  • Knowledge of manufacturing, fabrication processes & machine shop practices
  • Experience with drawing release criteria and related documents for:
  • Completeness, clarity, and dimensional accuracy
  • Correctness of materials and processes
  • Conformity to design/drafting standards (e.g. GD&T), design specifications, and practicability;
  • Economy of fabrication, assembly, and installation.
  • Knowledge and application of GD&T (ASME Y14.5-2018)
  • Knowledge and application of drawing weld symbols
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills in managing time, projects, and resources
  • Technical attention to detail
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen with ability to obtain and maintain a DoD SECRET security clearance & special program access


POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The ideal candidate for this role will enjoy working in a fast-paced environment with high expectations, diverse assignments, and collaborating with internal and external customers. In this role you will design industrial tools, dies, gauges, drill & assembly jigs, fixtures, machine attachments and equipment, required for assembly, composite production or experimental use, considering such factors as accessibility, economy, mobility, and performance requirements. This role works closely with manufacturing, operations, vendors, and cross-functional engineering teams to ensure tooling meets quality, cost, schedule, and safety requirements. The candidate shall have the ability to work autonomously and in a team environment, adapt to processes and company policy while providing input or methods of process/design innovation.
  • Develop tooling concepts and support equipment for new and existing programs
  • Design tooling and equipment, including engineering drawings, inspection requirements, and verification plans
  • Review designs for manufacturability, fit, form, and function
  • Identify and mitigate safety risks in accordance with company and state/government standards
  • Make layouts of complex assemblies and details parts of structures
  • Develops basic data and makes preliminary layouts, sketches, and notes necessary to present design proposal.
  • Interface with internal customers and design review teams to ensure requirements are met
  • Coordinates with manufacturing, operations, and process engineering to support program quality, delivery, and cost objectives
  • Manage tooling projects, including cost, schedule, procurement, and fabrication
  • Checks completed layouts and drawings for clarity, completeness, conformity to standards, procedures, specifications, and accuracy of calculations and dimensioning.
  • Identifies design errors, omissions, and other deficiencies, and recommends revisions and/or improvements in design layout to responsible engineers or designers.
  • Support vendors during fabrication and inspect fabricated tooling for drawing compliance
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and proactive problem-solving Safety, Process, and Compliance
  • Support investigations related to root cause analysis, non-conformances, and process failures


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (DESIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE)

  • Experience in an aerospace manufacturing environment
  • Experience in engineering, design, and fabrication of special tooling and support equipment
  • Experience in design, fabrication and implementation of tooling used in the manufacture of composite parts
  • Ability to evaluate vendor capabilities for tooling and aerospace part production
  • Experience participating in developments project, establishing tooling SOW & design estimates.
  • Experience with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills
  • Experience with stress analysis of simple to complex problems via hand calculations and FEMAP/NASTRAN
  • Professional Engineering License
  • Current active DOD Secret clearance with an investigation date/periodic review within the last 5 years.

Bachelor's Degree required.

School must be accredited.

WORK HOURS
