Theme Development Engineer

Overview / Summary

We are seeking a Theme Development Engineer to support the development and execution of vehicle design concepts from initial engineering feasibility through physical and digital model development. This role partners with cross-functional teams to transform design vision into production-feasible solutions while integrating engineering, manufacturing, functional, and aesthetic requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead studio property setup and integrity, including content, data pedigree, ride height, manikin drop, and overall suitability.
  • Lead completion of design feasibility studies and development activities through defined feasibility and development phases.
  • Complete design development checklists and hardpoints plans and integrate aligned plans into surface development.
  • Lead integration of A-surface design with thematic, functional, attribute, and vehicle architecture inputs while maintaining design intent.
  • Guide initial theme setup and development through functional, supplier, and attribute requirements.
  • Develop and maintain surface scaffold files to support physical and digital model development and theme overlays.
  • Provide concept alternatives and proposals that support alignment of design intent with functional and program requirements.
  • Lead optimization and balancing of studio inputs to support overall theme vision.
  • Manage design data within, into, and out of the studio environment.
  • Develop initial engineering concepts and integrate engineering and manufacturing requirements into design surfaces.
  • Support creation of physical models that bridge design concepts and production feasibility.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.
  • Equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of a bachelor's degree.
  • 3+ years of experience in complete vehicle layout and packaging, including Body and Trim.
  • Advanced proficiency in CATIA with the ability to independently create complex 3D proposals.
  • Advanced CAD and CAD Design experience with the ability to independently develop complex 3D models and proposals.
