Position may be based in one of the following facilities: Lynchburg, Virginia or Erwin, Tennessee

Position Overview:

As our Test Engineer, you will be responsible for the development and execution of test programs focused on verification and acceptance testing of components and systems for first-of-a-kind nuclear systems. In collaboration with Research and Engineering teams, the Test Engineer will develop and execute test plans; design, build, and operate test equipment; conduct testing activities; analyze and interpret data; and prepare detailed technical documentation for products, systems, and components.

On-site in Lynchburg, VA at the Advanced Technologies Office

Your Day to Day as a Test Engineer:
  • Support testing programs during all phases of the design process.
  • Develop test plans to address testing requirements provided by other cross-functional teams. Test plans include test equipment concept, procedures, cost estimate, etc.
  • Coordinate with internal teams to ensure the planned testing will meet their needs.
  • Support Engineering in the design of test equipment.
  • Support the build of test setups (test stands/test rigs) in coordination with the Operations team and perform commissioning (test readiness) activities.
  • Perform testing in collaboration with Operations team. Ensure operational discipline is maintained by operators and test engineers and that testing is executed per plan and in a safe manner.
  • Analyze test data and evaluate whether executed tests meet defined objectives.
  • Prepare test reports.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations to internal and external stakeholders.


Required Qualifications:
  • A bachelor's degree in engineering or physics is required (e.g., Mechanical, Electrical, or a related discipline).
  • A minimum of two (2) years of related experience is required.
  • Must have experience with disciplined operations.
  • Must possess a technical background in engineering design.
  • Must have experience collaborating effectively with multiple internal teams and intercompany teams.
  • Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to self-direct with minimal day-to-day supervision.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) or Department of Defense (DOD) security clearance, whichever is required.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with the design and/or operation of fluid systems and instrumentation and control for nuclear applications.
  • Experience with instrumentation and control systems and automation.
  • Hands-on experience with building and operating test setups and equipment.
  • Active DOD or DOE Security Clearance.

Pay: $76,000.00 - $157,000.00

The base salary range for this position in Virginia (US-VA) at the start of employment is expected to be between $76,000.00 and $157,000.00 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors, and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at-will,' unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement. The company further reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment, compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and other market factors.
