This Position reports to:
Testing & Laboratory Manager
As a Certification Engineer, you contribute to the company’s product innovation by developing, managing, and executing conformity assessment activities. You actively participate in standardization activities by contributing to the drafting committees of product codes and standards, as well as other industry technical forums. You proactively identify trends related to North American installation codes, North American and IEC product standards, as well as global product applications, and communicate them to relevant stakeholders.
This role is contributing to the Electrification, Installation Products division of ABB Canada and is located in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu.
The work model is hybrid, with an average of 3 days per week at the office.
Responsabilities:
- Develop, maintain, communicate and manage product certification strategies for new and existing product designs with certification
- Collaborate with product certification organizations (ex.: CSA, UL, etc.) as well as with numerous ABB functions to maintain the accuracy of product certification records throughout the lifecycle of the product, standard.
- Plan, coordinate and execute certification projects including management of third-party activities, support and review mechanical/electrical assembly of samples, test set-up, report preparation or data analysis, preparation of documentation and providing status reports to stakeholders.
- Identify and communicate industry and regulatory trends and changes, including competitive activities, codes, standards, processes, etc., that could affect product development, product certifications, product designs, manufacturing technology, or market acceptance.
- As assigned, represent the company as a member or leader on industry technical committees, technical policy committees and other industry forums.
- Manage product certification/acceptance for targeted country(ies).
- Act in advisory capacity to engineering, marketing and laboratory staff in area of codes and standards. Assist electrical/mechanical product engineers in determining testing requirements for compliance with the standards.
- Maintain current knowledge of identified codes and standards that define product and system performance, construction, and safe application.
Basic Requirements:
- Bilingual French/English (written and verbal). English is necessary to communicate with clients outside Quebec.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, or other technical field, with demonstrated technical and analytical aptitude.
- Registered Professional Engineer (OIQ or equivalent in other Canada province)
- 5+ years’ experience working with electrical codes, standards, and their processes.
- Ability and willingness to travel (up to 10%), including weekends.
- Ability to interface with external and internal customers through written and verbal communication.
- Ability to plan and oversee multiple projects and all related activities.
- Working Knowledge and use of Microsoft Office products.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Intermediate ability to act as a technical resource and transfer the most current knowledge and skills to others.
- Experience in application or development of electrical codes and electrical product standards.
- Ability to build relationships by sharing personal experiences and perspectives.
- Experience leading cross functional working groups is an asset.
- Experience working within industry associations (e.g. EFC, NEMA), consensus standards organizations (e.g. CSA, UL, etc.) and provincial electrical authorities on electrical codes and standards activities, is an asset.
- Knowledge of ISO17025 based lab qualification (e.g. CSA Category program, UL DAP program)
