Performs all types of Ultrasound procedures based upon department needs (General, Transplant, Abdominal and Pediatrics).

I. Major Responsibilities:

1.  Performs specialized or general procedures according to established departmental protocols.
2.  Performs ultrasound procedures for vascular, obstetrical and other specific areas as required.
3.  Operates all types of Ultrasound equipment.  Performs portable exams in various areas throughout the hospital to include the Operating Room and Intensive Care Units.  Records images and makes hard copies where applicable.
4.  Uses RIS to schedule and complete exams as applicable.  Process labels, folders and films. 
5.  Serves as a resource to sonographers, MDs, and students.
6.  Assists in the care and maintenance of facilities, equipment and supplies.  Maintains
7.  Clean and safe work area.  Reports any hazardous conditions or equipment breakdown to supervisor.
8.  Provides proper patient care. Interviews patients for required information. Explains procedures to patients to ensure their understanding, cooperation, comfort and to optimize test results. Positions patients as required. Exercises care when moving patients to ensure their comfort and safety. Takes vital signs as required; informs physician of changes.
9.  Maintains patient records and statistics accurately. 
10. Labels sonograms properly to assist in diagnosis and to ensure correct identification.  Provides test information to physicians.  Notifies physicians immediately of results revealing patient risks.
11. Maintain records, reports and files as required or directed.

1. Registration required by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS). 

Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.

Department-specific competencies and their measurements will be developed and maintained in the individual departments. The competencies will be maintained and attached to the departmental job description. Responsible managers will review competencies with position incumbents.

III. Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions:

Work is considered sedentary. Position requires work indoors in a normal office environment.

Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Ultrasound Manager and Lead Technologist, the Breast Ultrasound Technologist performs high-quality diagnostic sonographic imaging in a breast imaging setting. This role supports radiologists by producing accurate imaging, assisting in procedures, and ensuring adherence to departmental policies, patient safety standards, and hospital protocols.

Key Responsibilities

· Perform a wide range of breast ultrasound exams ensuring high diagnostic quality

· Assist physicians during invasive procedures (biopsies, aspirations, etc.)

· Prepare and maintain exam rooms, ensuring compliance with infection control and safety protocols

· Position patients appropriately to ensure comfort, safety, and optimal imaging results

· Monitor patient condition during exams and respond to any changes as needed

· Collaborate with radiologists to provide required imaging views and additional scans

· Maintain accurate documentation and ensure proper exam reporting and billing compliance

· Operate imaging systems such as PACS, RIS, and Epic

· Maintain ultrasound equipment and ensure rooms are clean and ready for use

· Provide patient-centered care with clear communication and professionalism

· Support departmental workflow, including schedule flexibility and coverage as needed

Required Qualifications (Must-Haves)

· Minimum 3 years' experience in a Breast Imaging setting

· ARDMS Certification in Breast – required within 1 year of hire date

· Associate’s degree or certificate in Diagnostic Medical Sonography
