Technical Training Manager

Asplundh Electrical Testing is seeking an experienced Training Manager to lead the development and delivery of technical training programs supporting our utility-focused field operations. This role is based in Foxborough, MA and is responsible for ensuring technicians are trained to meet NETA standards, utility specifications, and internal safety and quality requirements.

The Training Manager plays a critical role in building technical capability, strengthening compliance, and supporting workforce development across high-voltage and utility-scale electrical systems.

Key Responsibilities

Training Program Development & Delivery

  • Design, implement, and deliver technical training programs aligned with NETA standards, utility requirements, and AET procedures.
  • Develop structured curricula spanning apprentice, journeyman, and senior technician levels.
  • Facilitate classroom, field-based, and blended learning training sessions.


Hands-On Technical Instruction

  • Provide practical, hands-on training for utility and power system testing, including:
    • Power Factor / Dissipation Factor testing
    • Ductor (low-resistance) testing
    • Megger / Insulation Resistance testing
    • CT ratio, polarity, and saturation testing
    • Hi-Pot testing
    • Circuit breakers (LV, MV, HV)
    • Transformers (power and distribution)
    • Switchgear and substations
    • Motors, cables, PTs, CCVTs, and related equipment
  • Reinforce compliance with NFPA 70E, OSHA, NETA, and utility-specific safety programs.


Continuous Improvement & Compliance

  • Stay current with updates to NETA standards, industry practices, and utility expectations.
  • Incorporate field feedback, audit results, and lessons learned into training enhancements.
  • Support technician evaluations, qualification tracking, and corrective training plans.


Training Materials & Documentation

  • Develop and maintain training materials including instructor guides, e-learning modules, job aids, videos, and assessments.
  • Maintain accurate training records, attendance, certifications, and curriculum documentation to support audits and compliance.


Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Operations, Safety, Quality, and Leadership to align training with contract requirements and operational risk.
  • Support onboarding, progression, and career development pathways for field technicians.
  • Assist with workforce capability planning and succession efforts.


Required Qualifications

  • Field-based background in electrical testing, utility services, or power system commissioning.
  • Hands-on experience with utility-scale electrical equipment and testing methodologies.
  • Strong working knowledge of NETA standards and test procedures.
  • Experience delivering or facilitating technical training in a field or classroom environment.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to travel periodically to support field training initiatives.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook).


Preferred Qualifications

  • Technical degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Technology, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience demonstrated through progressive advancement, training, and leadership responsibilities.
  • NETA Certification (Level III, or IV) strongly preferred.
  • Experience developing structured training programs or serving as a technical instructor.
  • Utility, transmission & distribution, or high-voltage substation experience.
  • People leadership, mentoring, or supervisory experience.
