Technical Scrum Master / Delivery Lead - Release ManagementPosition Overview The Store Team Member Experience team builds and maintains tools that store team members rely on every day. This role sits at the intersection of
agile delivery, technical understanding, and release management, with ownership of the release process from build and packaging through environment promotion, change management, and production deployment.
Working in a
SAFe environment, you will support one squad while aligning delivery with PI planning, system demos, and cross-team dependencies. You will drive delivery outcomes, enforce release gates, manage technical risks, and ensure releases are planned, tested, approved, and deployed with minimal risk.
What You'll Do - Facilitate sprint ceremonies, including planning, stand-ups, reviews, and retrospectives.
- Maintain the team backlog in Azure DevOps with clear acceptance criteria, dependencies, and technical context.
- Track, improve, and communicate delivery metrics such as velocity, burndown, and cycle time.
- Track and communicate release metrics, including deployment frequency, lead time, change failure rate, and MTTR.
- Own the release calendar and related change documentation.
- Enforce the release process end to end, including code freezes, regression windows, go/no-go checkpoints, rollback plans, and environment promotion from INT 12 CERT 12 PROD.
- Enforce release gates, including regression execution, code quality and security scans, confirmed test coverage, and complete traceability.
- Work with tools and processes including SonarQube, Veracode, repository links, pipeline links, and test evidence.
- Own the RCA process for production incidents.
- Identify and escalate technical risks such as upstream delays, environment issues, API breaking changes, and pipeline failures before they impact delivery.
- Champion SAFe ceremonies, including PI Planning, System Demos, Inspect & Adapt, and Scrum of Scrums.
- Ensure squad-level work aligns with PI objectives.
- Drive automated testing adoption by championing unit test coverage, integration testing, and API contract validation.
- Track Technology Modernization and technical debt, ensuring visibility in the backlog with appropriate prioritization.
- Coach team members on agile principles, self-organization, and sustainable pace.
- Shield the team from external disruptions and scope creep.
- Maintain a release audit trail, including release notes, deployment records, and incident postmortems.
- Monitor post-deployment health using Azure Monitor, Application Insights, and Splunk.
Required Qualifications - 5+ years as a Scrum Master, Delivery Lead, or Technical Project Manager in software engineering, with direct experience owning release management processes.
- Technical literacy across CI/CD pipelines, API contracts, SQL, and cloud terminology.
- Hands-on Azure DevOps experience, including boards, dashboards, and queries.
- GitHub experience.
- Experience managing release lifecycles, including INT 12 CERT 12 PROD environment promotion, code freezes, and rollback procedures.
- Experience with enterprise change management, including ServiceNow, CAB, CR/CHG/CRQ, and PRR.
- Experience with SAFe or scaled agile frameworks, including PI Planning.
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to translate technical complexity into clear status updates and risk assessments for non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience driving engineering quality practices, including automated testing adoption, code coverage standards, and release gate enforcement in teams with varying test maturity.
- Demonstrated ability to own RCA processes that identify systemic gaps beyond proximate causes, with actionable follow-through on preventive measures.
- Review the overall PR metrics; familiarity with branching.
