Overview

Who we're looking for

At TFS, we're building next-generation products that redefine mobility for millions of customers worldwide. We're looking for a Technical Program Manager (TPM) with strong technical depth and a bias for delivery to drive complex engineering programs across our full-stack and backend teams.

This role follows the AWS-style TPM model: you're not a project tracker or a meeting scheduler. You're a technically fluent program leader who understands the systems your teams are building, can break down ambiguous problems into executable plans, manage cross-team dependencies, and drive delivery end-to-end - from concept through production. You'll partner directly with Engineering Managers, Sr Lead Engineers, Product, and platform teams to keep programs on track, surface risks early, and ensure we're shipping the right things at the right time with the right quality.

Think of this as the connective tissue between strategy and execution. You own the "how" and "when" so engineering teams can focus on the "what."

This position is based in Plano, TX. The selected candidate will be expected to reside within a commutable distance of this location.

What you'll be doing:
  • Own and drive the end-to-end delivery of complex, cross-team engineering programs - from scoping and planning through execution, launch, and retrospective
  • Break down large, ambiguous initiatives into well-defined milestones, workstreams, and deliverables with clear ownership and timelines
  • Manage cross-team dependencies across backend, full-stack, front-end, platform, infrastructure, and security teams - identifying risks and resolving blockers before they become problems
  • Partner closely with Engineering Managers and Sr Lead Engineers to align on technical approach, sequencing, and resource allocation
  • Facilitate technical design reviews, sprint planning, and program-level syncs - ensuring alignment without creating unnecessary process overhead
  • Define and maintain program roadmaps, status reporting, and delivery metrics that give leadership clear visibility into progress, risks, and tradeoffs
  • Drive release planning and deployment coordination for complex, multi-service rollouts on AWS - understanding the blast radius and rollback strategies for serverless and distributed systems
  • Champion operational readiness: ensure launches include observability, runbooks, load testing, and incident response plans
  • Identify systemic delivery bottlenecks - process gaps, tooling friction, unclear ownership - and drive improvements that make teams faster
  • Communicate program status, technical risks, and tradeoffs clearly to stakeholders at all levels, from engineers to senior leadership
  • Support agile practices across teams - not as a ceremonial scrum master, but as someone who ensures the right rituals exist to keep delivery predictable and teams aligned
  • Contribute to the evolution of TFS engineering processes, tooling, and delivery culture

What you bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 8+ years of experience in technical program management, software engineering, or a hybrid of both, with at least 3+ years in a TPM or technical delivery leadership role
  • Strong technical fluency - you can read architecture diagrams, understand API contracts, follow distributed system traces, and have informed conversations about system design tradeoffs
  • Working knowledge of serverless architectures on AWS, including:
    • Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, Step Functions, EventBridge, SQS/SNS, and S3
    • You don't need to write the code, but you need to understand how these services compose, where they break, and what the operational implications are
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, deployment strategies (blue/green, canary), and release management for distributed systems
  • Experience managing programs that span multiple engineering teams with complex technical dependencies - you know how to map dependencies, sequence work, and keep parallel workstreams moving
  • Proven ability to operate in ambiguity: you can take a vague business objective, work with engineering and product to define scope, and turn it into a delivery plan
  • Strong understanding of agile and iterative delivery practices - you know when to apply structure and when to get out of the way
  • Experience with observability and operational readiness - you ensure teams aren't just shipping features, but shipping features that are production-ready
  • Excellent written and verbal communication - you can write a crisp program status update, run a room of engineers through a dependency review, and present tradeoffs to a VP
  • Experience with program management tooling: Jira, Confluence, or similar - you use tools to create clarity, not bureaucracy
  • Data-driven mindset - you track delivery metrics, identify patterns, and use data to drive decisions and improvements

Added bonus if you have
  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
  • Experience in the financial services, banking, or insurance industry
  • Hands-on software engineering background - you've written production code and understand the realities of building and maintaining systems
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (AWS CDK, CloudFormation, Terraform) and understanding of infrastructure delivery pipelines
  • Familiarity with multi-account AWS architectures, governance patterns, and cloud cost management
  • Experience driving platform migrations, system decompositions, or large-scale re-architecture programs
  • Experience with GenAI integration programs (e.g., Bedrock, SageMaker, LLM orchestration) understanding the unique delivery challenges of ML/AI workloads
  • Familiarity with data streaming patterns (Kinesis, MSK/Kafka) and event-driven architecture delivery
  • AWS certifications (Solutions Architect, Cloud Practitioner, or similar)
  • Experience running operational reviews, incident retrospectives, or COE (Correction of Error) processes
  • Experience defining and rolling out engineering-wide processes, mechanisms, or delivery frameworks

What we'll bring

During your interview process, our team can fill you in on all the details of our industry-leading benefits and career development opportunities. A few highlights
include:
  • A work environment built on teamwork, flexibility, and respect
  • Professional growth and development programs to help advance your career, as well as tuition reimbursement
  • Team Member Vehicle Purchase Discount
  • Toyota Team Member Lease Vehicle Program (if applicable)
  • Comprehensive health care and wellness plans for your entire family
  • Toyota 401(k) Savings Plan featuring a company match, as well as an annual retirement contribution from Toyota, regardless of whether you contribute
  • Paid holidays and paid time off
  • Referral services related to prenatal services, adoption, childcare, schools, and more
  • Tax-Advantaged Accounts (Health Savings Account, Health Care FSA, Dependent Care FSA)
  • Relocation Assistance (if applicable).
