Full Job Description
The Role

In this role you'll own go-to-market for Aiven's core open source products, the messaging, competitive positioning, marketing strategy, and sales plays that move technical buyers from evaluation to a signed contract. You'll also work with product and engineering to build the forward-looking narrative: where data infrastructure and AI are going, and why Aiven is the right bet. This position reports to the senior director of product marketing.
What You'll Work On
  • Develop and maintain positioning for PostgreSQL, Apache Kafka, OpenSearch, ClickHouse, and Valkey.
  • Lead our competitive intelligence program, building battlecards, hosting office hours, conducting win/loss analysis, and driving the "Why Aiven vs...?" narrative.
  • Translate technical differentiation into value language that resonates with practitioners, directors, and VPs.
  • Build the content AEs and SAs need at each stage of the funnel: solution briefs, demos and demo scripts, objection-handling guides, and case studies that lead with business outcomes.
  • Work with DevRel to connect bottom-up developer adoption to top-down enterprise buying motions.
  • Identify repeatable land-and-expand patterns and build plays that sales can run consistently.
  • Plan and execute product launches and feature releases, from positioning and messaging through to campaign assets and sales readiness.
  • Work with demand gen and content teams to turn PMM strategy into pipeline-generating programs.
  • Build and run a webinar program for technical buyers and practitioners.
What We're Looking For
  • 5+ years in product marketing preferably at a developer tools, data infrastructure, or cloud company.
  • Hands-on experience with at least one of: Kafka (or another streaming platform), PostgreSQL, OpenSearch/Elasticsearch, or a comparable open source data technology. You don't need to write production code, but you need to understand how these systems work and where they fit in a data stack.
  • Proven ability to build competitive positioning that holds up in real sales conversations-not just decks.
  • Strong written communication. You can take something complex and make it clear without dumbing it down.
  • Experience collaborating directly with sales teams and customers. You've felt the difference between content that gets used and content that's inauthentic and quickly discarded.
Nice to Have
  • Experience as a solutions architect.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML data infrastructure trends and how teams are building AI-ready data pipelines.
  • Background working with or alongside a DevRel or developer advocacy function.
  • Experience at a managed cloud services company or a multi-product data platform.
  • Exposure to partner or channel marketing (SIs, cloud marketplaces, ISVs).
