Job Description


Overview

As a Technical Manager on the Platform Development team, you will play a key role in expanding the data platform that supports all of CoStar Group’s largest brands including Homes.com, CoStar Suite, LoopNet and Apartments.com. You will deeply understand what drives the business for which you are building software. We firmly believe that what separates a good developer from a great one is a deep understanding of the business that they are supporting.

CoStar is investing heavily in artificial intelligence to accelerate software delivery, improve platform observability, automate research and business workflows, enhance product experiences through intelligent agents and skills, and improve data quality across enterprise systems. Successful candidates will demonstrate a willingness to learn, adopt, and apply AI technologies responsibly to solve complex business and engineering challenges.

This position is located in Arlington, VA and is in office Monday through Thursday with work from home on Friday.

Responsibilities

  • Lead an Agile software development team (approximately 5-7 people); Lead daily ceremonies; Deliver done-done features to customers at high velocity.
  • Act as a player-coach, who can mentor & coach highly productive team members.
  • Promote can-do attitude, engineering mindset and collaboration as fundamental team values.
  • Influence web application architecture and CI/CD pipeline improvements.
  • Drive continuous improvement by focusing on engineering excellence.
  • Champion the adoption of AI-assisted software development practices to improve developer productivity, code quality, platform reliability, and operational efficiency.
  • Leverage AI-powered monitoring, anomaly detection, replayability, and observability capabilities to improve system resiliency, incident response, root cause analysis, and customer experience.
  • Partner with engineering and product teams to identify opportunities for intelligent processes that reduce manual effort, accelerate research workflows, and improve operational effectiveness across CoStar platforms.
  • Lead teams in designing, implementing, and governing AI-powered solutions including skills, agents, tools, and workflow automations that enhance both internal productivity and customer-facing products.
  • Promote responsible AI adoption by ensuring solutions adhere to security, privacy, governance, and quality standards.
  • Drive initiatives that utilize machine learning and AI tooling to improve data quality, enrichment, validation, entity resolution, and data governance across enterprise data platforms.
  • Translate business requirements into technical requirements, develop project plan and work schedules for use by the development team. 
  • Successfully implement software development projects to specification and within scheduled timelines and budget parameters.
  • Collaborate with Product Managers, Designers, and other Agile teams to deliver large initiatives; Develop roadmap.
  • Work with recruiters to identify, hire, and onboard top industry talent.
  • Develop and maintain an in-depth working knowledge of the Real Estate Industry and CoStar’s business model / technology.
  • Continually evaluate emerging technologies to identify opportunities, trends and best practices that can be used to strengthen CoStar’s technology platform and development practices.
  • Evaluate emerging AI technologies, models, frameworks, and agent-based architectures to identify strategic opportunities for innovation and competitive advantage.
  • Develop engineering roadmaps that incorporate AI capabilities into platform services, business processes, observability systems, and data quality initiatives.
  • Foster a culture of experimentation where teams measure and validate the effectiveness of AI-driven solutions through measurable business outcomes.
  • Adopt an owner-operator mindset and demonstrate full ownership of the product and technical platforms.
  • Act as "Voice of the Customer" when participating in product readiness reviews 

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required from an accredited, not for profit, in-person university or college.  
  • A track record of commitment to prior employers.
  • 7+ years of relevant development experience.
  • 3+ years’ experience in modern web and database technologies.
  • 3+ years’ experience building large distributed, API-driven systems.
  • 3+ years of experience leading Agile Team(s).
  • Demonstrated expert knowledge of Object-Oriented Programming and design patterns.
  • Solid experience with the following technologies; C#, .NET Core, and SQL Server.
  • Experience leading technical teams, working through complex requirements and offering relevant, timely technical solutions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; Must be able to communicate at a level appropriate to the audience (direct reports, peers and senior management).
  • Excellent team building, negotiation and consensus building abilities.
  • Ability to motivate and build high performance software development teams.
  • Familiarity with modern AI platforms, large language models (LLMs), agent orchestration frameworks, or AI-assisted development tools.
  • Understanding of observability, monitoring, replayability, telemetry analysis, and automated incident detection platforms.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

  • Experience with Cloud-Native architecture, preferably within AWS.
  • Experience developing or managing AI-powered applications, agents, tools, search experiences, or intelligent automation platforms.
  • Experience leveraging AI to improve software engineering productivity, operational monitoring, research workflows, and data stewardship.
  • Experience implementing AI-assisted data quality solutions including deduplication, enrichment, classification, anomaly detection, and entity matching.
  • Experience with non-relational databases such as DynamoDB, MongoDB or Elasticsearch.
  • Experience with Docker and container orchestration.
  • Real Estateknowledge is a bonus.

The final salary or hourly rate offered for this role will fall within the range set forth below based on avariety of factors, including but not limited to, geographic location, skills, and competencies.


Base Compensation: $170,000 - $258,000 Annually
