Technical Fellow - Onshape Labs

Boston, MA (hybrid)

Key Responsibilities

  • Innovation & Incubation: Identify, evaluate, and rapidly prototype emerging technologies and product concepts that can create strategic advantages for Onshape and PTC.


  • Architecture & Technical Strategy: Define technical approaches for exploratory initiatives, balancing invention, product fit, technical feasibility, integration path, and architectural coherence.


  • Execution & Integration: Build working software, proof-of-concepts, and integration-ready foundations that combine new and existing technologies to accelerate learning and avoid unnecessary reinvention.


  • Market Focus & Validation: Work with Product Management, UX, customers, and engineering leaders to validate customer value, technical feasibility, and business potential early in the process.


  • Transition to Product: Partner with Onshape engineering teams to package successful Labs work for hand-off, including technical context, implementation guidance, risks, and integration recommendations.


Skills & Knowledge

  • Deep expertise in software architecture, cloud-native systems, distributed services, and modern engineering practices.


  • Demonstrated ability to rapidly learn, evaluate, and apply emerging technologies, including AI, agent-based systems, automation, and engineering workflow technologies.


  • Strong hands-on development skills with a history of transforming ambiguous concepts into working software and customer-facing solutions.


  • Excellent technical judgment across innovation, architecture, execution, product integration, performance, security, and operational reliability.


  • Strong market focus and domain knowledge, with the ability to connect customer needs and engineering workflows to technical direction.


  • Proven ability to influence architecture and engineering strategy across teams through technical leadership, collaboration, and clear communication.


  • Ability to mentor senior technical staff and raise the technical capability of the broader organization.


  • Comfort operating in fast-moving, ambiguous environments while maintaining a practical path toward eventual product adoption.

Compensation (CIP)
PTC carefully considers a wide variety of factors when determining compensation. The anticipated annual salary range for this position is between $180,000 - 200,000. The salary range reflects a good-faith estimate of compensation at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on a candidate's skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Additionally, candidates may be eligible for a performance-based bonus. Employees also have the opportunity to become a PTC shareholder through our employee share purchase program (ESPP), which allows for the purchase of discounted PTC stock. Certain roles may also be eligible for participation in our equity programs. Employees may be eligible for medical, dental and vision insurance, paid time off and sick leave, tuition reimbursement, 401(k) contributions and employer match, flexible spending accounts, life insurance, disability coverage and, if you are an office-assigned employee, a generous commuter subsidy.
