Full Job Description
The Team Leader Mechanical Design directs and mentors the mechanical engineering team. This role coordinates workload distribution to guarantee the timely delivery of high-quality designs that meet strict customer specifications, design standards, and global regulatory frameworks. The Team Leader acts as a primary technical liaison for sales, service, and external customers while aggressively driving continuous improvement and value engineering.

Position description - Tasks, Responsibilities, Competencies
  • Leads a high-performing design team producing complex CAD models, technical drawings, and Design for Excellence (DFX) outputs. Enforces strict SolidWorks modelling methodologies and parametric design standards to ensure CAD models are robust, scalable, and easily editable by the entire team.
  • Manages end-to-end project delivery by optimizing resource allocation, scheduling, and engineering quality metrics. Owns and optimizes the Engineering Change Notice (ECN) and Engineering Change Request (ECR) processes, ensuring all design modifications are thoroughly vetted, documented, and communicated to assembly.
  • Establishes continuous feedback loops between the design and assembly teams to improve standardization and Design for Manufacturability (DFM).
  • Monitors and minimizes project lead times, design queues, and error rates from initial kickoff through to final product shipment.
  • Drives value engineering initiatives to eliminate waste, control material costs, standardize components, and maximize product margins.
  • Coaches team members through daily technical roadblocks, fostering an environment of collaborative problem-solving.
  • Implements standardized design practices and process workflows to increase the speed and accuracy of the engineering department.
  • Mentors direct reports and identifies high-potential individuals to build the company's next generation of engineering leadership. Conducts regular technical design reviews and peer audits to maintain quality control, share knowledge, and alignment on design intent across the team.
  • Establishes Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for the engineering team, balancing workloads across designers while conducting rigorous technical design reviews to maintain quality control.

  • 10 + years of engineering design experience in an industrial equipment environment
  • 3+ years' experience for designing and complying with international regulation and directives including but not limited to (EAC, ATEX CE, NR12)
  • 5+ years SolidWorks design and PLM/PDM experience
  • 3+ years of formal leadership experience, with a proven track record of implementing standardized workflows (ECN/ECR), conducting design reviews, and managing performance.

Desirable
  • Experience with plastics processing equipment
  • Proficiency working in an SAP environment
