Full Job Description
We are seeking a Team Lead to join our Power Systems Engineering team in Kelowna, BC

Responsibilities:

Leadership & Mentorship
  • Provide ongoing leadership and technical support to the team, which includes Junior Engineers/EITs, Designers, and Drafters.
  • Support professional development through regular feedback, goal setting, and performance reviews.
  • Foster a collaborative and positive team culture that emphasizes technical excellence, safety, and accountability.

Team & Resource Management
  • Oversee day-to-day assignment of work, ensuring efficient resource allocation across multiple projects.
  • Approve team timesheets, expenses, and vacation requests in accordance with company policies.
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, and training of new team members as needed.

Project Delivery
  • Take ownership of projects being delivered by your team. Prepare equipment specifications, tender documents, estimates, material take-offs, and ensure adherence to delivery schedule.

Electrical Design and Power System Studies
  • Perform and direct others in the detailed design of medium to high voltage utility and private substations, including design, specification, and drafting.

Medium/Low Voltage Systems:
  • Design underground and overhead medium voltage distribution infrastructure (4 kV - 25 kV).
  • Specify and select medium voltage equipment such as transformers, switches, circuit breakers, and related devices.
  • Develop industrial low voltage designs including service conductors, control panels, and auxiliary systems.

High Voltage Systems:
  • Prepare station layouts, structure designs, and preliminary design documentation.
  • Specify and integrate high voltage switches, circuit breakers, and power transformers and other station apparatus.
  • Design bus configurations, grounding systems (per IEEE 80), and lightning protection systems (per IEEE 998)
  • Apply modern protective relaying techniques and design SCADA/communications interface systems.
  • Perform electrical studies to support station design work such as grounding, lightning protection, insulation coordination, AC/DC system sizing etc.
  • Conduct power system studies including load flow, voltage drop, fault, and arc-flash analyses using CYME or ETAP.
  • Develop innovative engineering solutions and apply theoretical and practical knowledge in modelling, analysis, and problem solving.

Client & Stakeholder Engagement
  • Manage client and stakeholder engagement, maintaining relationships with alliance clients and participating in stakeholder meetings.
  • Coordinate with utilities and authorities having jurisdiction to obtain necessary approvals and resolve design or construction issues.

Construction Support
  • Conduct site visits and inspections to verify that construction aligns with issued designs.
  • Perform field inspections as required and provide support to construction contractors to ensure safe and accurate execution.

Business Development
  • Coordinate quotations and proposals; develop technical input, cost estimates, and written content in support of upcoming projects and client opportunities.

Other Duties
  • Perform other tasks and responsibilities as required to support the success of the Power Systems Engineering team and broader organization.


Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Registered or eligible for registration with EGBC (or other Canadian association).
  • Minimum 7 years of relevant experience in electrical utility or power systems engineering.
  • Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Class 5 driver's license (or equivalent).

Additional Assets:
  • P.E. license in the United States (or ability to obtain within 6 months).
  • Experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation, MS Office
  • Proven ability to prioritize and manage competing priorities with schedule and budget constraints.
  • A passion for your work and a drive for excellence.
  • Self-starter with ability to work independently and collaboratively.


Salary Range: $55.00 - $70.00/hour
