Team Lead, Payroll

THE POSITION

As our experienced Team Lead, Payroll, you'll be the anchor of our payroll operations-guiding a dedicated team, ensuring compliance with complex regulations, and rolling up your sleeves to help process payroll alongside your team. You'll be setting the standard for excellence while mentoring others to grow in their payroll careers. Your leadership will ensure that every pay cycle runs smoothly, accurately, and in full compliance with federal and provincial legislation.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead, coach, and mentor a small team of payroll professionals, fostering a positive culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee and participate in the full end-to-end payroll process for multiple pay groups, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Stay ahead of, and ensure compliance in, payroll legislation, tax requirements, and reporting obligations.
  • Partner with HR, Finance, IT, and other stakeholders to resolve payroll-related issues and improve processes.
  • Implement best practices, streamline workflows, and leverage payroll technology to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Serve as the escalation point for complex payroll queries, providing expert guidance and solutions.


QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Skills/Experience:
  • 5 years post Payroll Leadership Professional (PLP) designation.
  • 15+ years of direct payroll experience, with increasingly higher responsibility, including leadership.
  • Exceptional knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation and regulations.
  • Previous experience with US payroll and legislation.
  • Background working with complex union bargaining agreements.
  • Workday Canadian Payroll module experience. Experience with Paychex is also an asset.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (especially Excel).
  • Competence with process improvement initiatives across multiple teams.
  • Knowledge of payroll accounting, reconciliations and financial controls.
