As the Teacher on Special Assignment (Health Education), you will:

In accordance with the California Standards of the Teaching Profession, teachers work under the supervision of site

or central office administrators and in collaboration with their school staff, families and community. The length of the work year for all teachers on special assignment is 184 days of service. Teachers on Special Assignment at the

Student and Family Services Division (SFSD) are responsible for the fulfillment of the essential duties set forth below:

1. Increase the capacity of school sites to implement health education curriculum and wellness policy priorities by working with teachers, school administrators, and other school site groups to provide resources, training, and professional development.
2. 1. Understand district health education curriculum at all levels; disseminate knowledge to educators at all levels
   2. b. Understand health education pedagogy and best practices for promoting positive culture and climate
   3. Support teachers to evaluate students on the Health and Social Emotional Learning components of the TK-5 Standards Based Report Card
   4. Recommend appropriate resources for site requests
   5. Offer site-based coaching on best practices for supporting health and wellness
   6. Promote and publicize learning opportunities for staff
3. Increase awareness of and compliance with SFUSD and health-related policies and laws
4. 1. Clarify health-related policies for SFSD staff, district staff, and parents in multiple venues
   2. Incorporate policy and procedures into all professional development (PD)
   3. Prepare and submit OASIS Notifications for School Health topics
   4. Share the latest research findings on public health with district staff, families, and community partners
5. Plan, coordinate, and facilitate Health Education Professional Development and programs in collaboration with level members
6. 1. a. Create notifications for learning opportunities, publicize in OASIS, and distribute to all stakeholders
   2. b. Collaborate with community-based organizations to implement supportive programs
   3. c. Collaborate with other health curriculum specialists to review and develop health education curriculum, resources, materials, and links to the common core standards
7. Collaborate and coordinate with teachers of Health Education and others to support implementation of health education and related health programs, i.e. SFUSD Wellness Policy.
8. 1. Serve as a resource for district staff; support activities and promotion of district and grant expectations and goals
   2. b. Schedule, plan, and facilitate professional development opportunities in health education
   3. c. Coordinate logistics for trainings: reserve rooms for PD, prepare OASIS announcements, schedule trainings online, and develop flyers and creative publicity materials
   4. d. Work with support staff to communicate with program participants
   5. e. Work with support staff to compile agendas, evaluations, PD materials, necessary supplies, and equipment (AV, flip chart, pens, etc.) in advance
9. Collect data needed to document and evaluate effectiveness of programs/activities.
10. 1. Ensure that completed materials for PD, workshops, presentations (agenda, sign-in, evaluations, materials) are organized appropriately
    2. Collaborate with program evaluators as needed
    3. Review local, state, and national data related to programming, including Coordinated Program Monitoring (CPM), California Healthy Kids Survey (CHKS), and Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS)
11. Be familiar with the program budget and paperwork required (contracts, funding resources, etc.)
12. Increase the capacity of school sites to coordinate and implement comprehensive health education, the district's Wellness Policy, and linkage to on-site and community resources and services.
13. 1. Provide staff presentations at designated sites
    2. Provide technical assistance to sites to support and enhance related health programs
    3. Facilitate central meetings and promote collaboration
14. Perform other duties as assigned, including special projects:
15. 1. Implement Project-Based learning knowledge or interest
    2. Assist school site Adult Liaisons (Allies) co-lead Project-Based learning activities for students
    3. Promote and publicize learning results for school staff
    4. Host webinars, social media campaigns, contribute to newsletters, and update the district website

• Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and GSuite (Google Docs, Slides, Sheets, Forms)

Minimum Qualifications

Education & Experience

• California Teaching Credential - Multiple Subject or Health Education Single Subject
• Bachelor's degree (B.A. / B.S) from an accredited college or university; advanced degree preferred
• Five or more years of successful classroom teaching experience
