Tax Counsel

The Tax Counsel has the opportunity to lead key strategic initiatives focused on value creation through the analysis and execution of beneficial tax strategies. This includes proactive tax planning, transaction due diligence and structuring, and participation in global tax compliance and accounting while working with a best-in-class tax team.

The ideal Candidate will have a broad tax background such that he or she can interface with the different tax and business functions to drive a broad array of tax projects. The candidate will be an excellent tax strategist, able to multitask and deal in a calm and balanced way with a variety of issues both expected and unexpected.

We are looking for a Tax Counsel. This is a hybrid position based in Iselin, NJ.

You'll make an impact by:

Mergers, Acquisitions, Dispositions, Joint Ventures & Corporate Integration:
  • Assist with the planning and implementation of mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and internal restructuring to help ensure tax efficiency.
  • Support the tax team in providing guidance for Company participation in joint ventures and strategic partnerships.
  • Contribute to tax support activities during post-acquisition business integration.
  • Work with the Tax Compliance Team to help ensure all required statements and elections regarding transactions are properly included in the Company's tax filings.

Tax Planning:
  • Collaborate with the Planning & Reporting team to help implement planning that manages the Company's overall tax burden.
  • Learn about Company operations and financial reporting systems to identify potential tax planning opportunities.
  • Research and interpret tax laws and rulings to resolve a wide variety of tax questions from the business and management.
  • Stay informed about proposed and final tax law changes and help assess potential impacts to Siemens.
  • Assist with communications and coordination with outside advisors regarding tax strategies and projects.
  • Work with other Tax Department functions on special projects such as Competent Authority proceedings, tax controversy, valuations, transfer pricing, and employee compensation.

Basic Qualifications:
  • 8+ years of experience in positions of increasing responsibility within the tax function in industry, a law firm, and/or public accounting firm.
  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • Juris Doctor required.
  • 8+ years' experience of proven strong technical tax and analytical skills.
  • Authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship now or in the future.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in international tax, partnership tax, tax issues associated with financial services matters and leasing activities, and/or employee compensation and benefits.
  • Experience modeling the tax consequences of alternative transactions in Microsoft Excel.
  • Familiarity with AI and tax technology.
  • Familiarity with tax accounting concepts.
  • Familiarity with US corporate income tax returns and schedules.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to collaborate, communicate, negotiate, influence, and implement change within the tax organization and other Company units.
  • Possess strong written and verbal communication skills and a proactive personality, including the ability to interact effectively within all levels of management and the ability convey complex tax concepts in plain English.
  • LLM in Taxation is preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or similar area preferred.

The pay range for this position is $159,579 - $273,564 annually with a target incentive of 20% of the base salary. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location.
