A Tableau Administrator is responsible for managing scaling and securing an organizations business intelligence infrastructure primarily handling Tableau Server or Tableau Cloud Daily tasks include user and license provisioning performance tuning system monitoring and providing enduser support
Key Responsibilities
Infrastructure Maintenance Configure patch and upgrade Tableau environments to ensure high availability and disaster recovery Manage server activity logs and perform routine cleanups and backups
Security Governance Assign granular permissions roles and licenses to users and groups Integrate with authentication protocols like Active Directory or SAML
Performance Tuning Monitor system health track query execution times and optimize server hardware and load balancing
User Enablement Create and manage sites projects and data connection schedules Provide technical assistance and training for Tableau Desktop and Tableau Cloud users
Core Qualifications Skills
Technical Proficiency Deep understanding of Tableau Server architecture SQL and relational databases
Cloud Experience Familiarity with hosting Tableau in cloud environments like AWS or Azure is highly valued in modern roles
Scripting Knowledge Experience with Python or Shell scripting for API integrations and task automation
Certifications Preferred credentials include the Tableau Server Certified Associate or Certified Professional
