A Brief Overview
The T32 Trainee Non-HCW will have a terminal degree or comparable doctoral degree (e.g., PhD, MD, MD/PhD, etc.) and will assume responsibility for a specific, on-going research project under the direction/guidance of a mentor (principal investigator). These individuals will NOT participate in clinical activities or patient-oriented research that would otherwise require them to function as health care workers (HCWs), but may be involved in translational or clinical research that does not involve direct patient contact.

The T32 Trainee Non-HCW training experience will serve to extend, refine and enhance skills necessary for professional and career development, and will enable the individual to broaden his/her scientific background by acquiring new research capabilities. It is expected that this individual will conduct independent scholarly research, and will contribute directly to the overall research goals of the project and the research group. T32 Trainee Non-HCWs will be expected to participate in project planning, recording and interpretation/evaluation of data, and communication of results. T32 Trainee Non-HCWs will also be expected to acquire technical, lab/program management, and manuscript/grant writing skills; and participate in seminars, lectures, poster sessions and presentations at national meetings. T32 Trainee Non-HCWs also may be required to supervise junior lab/program members, develop new methods and protocols for research, and assist with the development of other research projects.

T32 Trainees supported by an institutional T32 Training Grant or an individual F32 Training Grant are subject to all relevant requirements associated with that NIH grant mechanism.

• Demonstrated scientific and/or medical skills that support advanced research training in a laboratory-based, translational, or clinical research environment

SALARY RANGE:

$20,800.00 - $1,010,400.00 Annually
