Systems Software Engineer
This role has been designed as ''Onsite'' with an expectation that you will primarily work from an HPE office.
Job Description:
The Customer Focused Testing team is seeking an experienced Systems Software Engineer who thrives in a challenging, fast-paced environment. This role focuses on testing HPE storage products, evaluating application feasibility with HPE storage solutions, and reproducing customer issues in customer-like environments to accelerate debugging and resolution. The successful candidate is a self-driven engineer with at least 4 years of relevant experience, deep hands-on storage and virtualization expertise, and the ability to represent the customer's point of view in cross-functional decision-making.
Key Responsibilities:
• Champion customer-focused testing practices, advocate for issue resolution, and influence product quality by ensuring the customer's point of view is represented in decision-making.
• Design, implement, and execute customer-focused tests for the data storage product offering.
• Rapidly gain expertise in external applications and validate integration feasibility with HPE storage products to deliver robust end-to-end solutions.
• Collaborate with Customer Engineering and Escalation teams to understand customer issues, perform targeted testing to reproduce problems, and work with development to accelerate debugging and resolution.
• Analyze test results, debug failures, and drive issues to resolution with development, QA, product management, and customer support teams.
• Review and provide input on functional and design specifications, and partner with cross-functional teams including Product Management, Solution Engineering, Customer Support, and Platform Engineering.
• Identify test coverage gaps, raise defects, shift information left to upstream test organizations, and document test strategies, workflows, results, and recommendations.
Requirements:
• Bachelor or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent.
• Typically, 4+ years of hands-on experience with cloud, storage, and networking technologies, including Block, File and Object storage, Kubernetes, and related ecosystems.
• Solid understanding of storage protocols (FC, iSCSI, NFS, SMB, S3) to support scalable and reliable solutions.
• Experience with virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper-V, KVM) and enterprise backup solutions.
Knowledge and Skills:
• Proficiency in Linux and Windows operating systems for multi-platform testing and validation.
• Experience with scripting (Python, Shell) to automate workflows and improve test efficiency.
• Experience setting up and managing lab infrastructure, including storage systems and servers.
• Strong debugging and problem-solving skills for complex, distributed system environments.
• Good analytical and troubleshooting ability, with attention to detail.
• Knowledge of regression, scalability, and performance testing methodologies to ensure product reliability.
• Familiarity with industry-standard tools, including test management platforms, defect tracking systems (JIRA), and performance benchmarking tools.
• Strong collaboration skills for working with multiple engineering teams and stakeholders to resolve complex issues.
• Self-driven with outstanding verbal and written communication skills to influence and deliver results across teams.
• Experience leveraging AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Copilot, or similar) to enhance productivity, automate tasks, or improve testing workflows.
• Passion for learning emerging technologies, with curiosity and adaptability to apply them to real-world enterprise-grade quality scenarios.
