Full Job Description
We are currently seeking a Rail Systems Engineer/Specialist - Requirements Management to join our Rail Systems Team in Toronto and support a portfolio of major rail and transit infrastructure programs across Canada and the United States. This role will focus on requirements engineering, traceability, compliance, and systems integration activities within complex, multidisciplinary project environments. Reporting to the Rail Systems Requirements Management Lead and working closely with project managers and discipline leads, you will support project teams through both bid and delivery stages. You will provide technical expertise in requirements management, including the administration and governance of Jama Connect, while leveraging experience with IBM DOORS Classic and DOORS Next where applicable. The role will ensure requirements traceability, verification, validation, and compliance reporting throughout the systems engineering lifecycle. The role requires strong analytical capability, expertise in requirements management and traceability practices, and advanced proficiency in Jama Connect, with experience in IBM DOORS Classic and/or DOORS Next considered an asset. You will confidently interface with clients and stakeholders in technical workshops and formal review settings, working collaboratively with multidisciplinary engineering teams to ensure requirements are structured, traceable, verifiable, and aligned with contractual, regulatory, and project-specific obligations. Responsibilities of this specific role will include, but not be limited to the following: • Lead the administration and management of the Requirements Traceability Matrix (RTM) and associated requirements datasets using Jama Connect. • Act as a Jama Connect power user and administrator, including project setup, workflow administration, traceability management, reporting, and data integrity assurance. • Maintain and continuously improve requirements database structure, workflows, and configuration control processes • Develop, refine, and manage system, subsystem, interface, and verification requirements throughout all phases of the project lifecycle • Ensure complete end-to-end traceability from contractual requirements through design and verification • Support compliance tracking, audit readiness, and contractual reporting obligations • Generate structured reports, dashboards, metrics, and compliance evidence from Jama Connect and associated tools to support project delivery and client-facing reporting. • Perform advanced data analysis using Excel and other applicable tools to validate traceability and requirements completeness • Experience with IBM DOORS Classic and/or DOORS Next is an asset and may be required to support legacy requirements databases or project transitions • Coordinate closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams to ensure alignment between requirements and design outputs • Support systems integration and interface management activities, where applicable • Represent Arup in client meetings and technical workshops related to requirements management, traceability, and compliance • Lead or support client-facing discussions on requirements status, traceability approach, baselines, and verification planning • Prepare technical memoranda and compliance reports for internal and external stakeholders • Present requirements status and compliance findings clearly and confidently to both technical and non-technical audiences • Support Technical Advisory / Owner's Engineer services including research, gap analysis, and compliance assessments • Contribute to continuous improvement of requirements management processes and standards across projects Qualifications • Bachelor's degree in engineering (Electrical, Computer, Civil, Mechanical, Electronic, Systems or similar) Competencies and Experience Required: • Minimum 6 years of demonstrated experience in Rail and Transit Infrastructure Requirements Management • Advanced proficiency in Jama Connect as a requirements management platform, with demonstrated experience in requirements structuring, traceability, change management, reporting, and compliance monitoring. This range is commensurate with experience, educational background, and skill level. Benefits are not included in the base salary.
