Bowman has an opportunity for a Systems & Automation Specialist III to join our team in Reston, VA.

Purpose

The Systems & Automation Specialist III supports the administration, testing, and continuous improvement of the organization's core business systems, with a primary focus on Deltek Vantagepoint and Smartsheet. This role builds and maintains workflows, dashboards, and automated processes under the direction of the Manager; executes system testing and access-review cycles; maintains project and risk documentation; and applies AI-assisted tools to complete technical work efficiently. It serves as a hands-on execution partner within the team's growing PMO framework, supporting Project Managers and Business Analysts across Finance, Accounting, IT, and Billing Operations.

Responsibilities

Leadership and Direction
  • Act as a trusted partner to the Manager, advising on process improvements and automation opportunities.
  • Serve as a go-to resource for Smartsheet best practices, governance, and standardization, assuming ownership of recurring Smartsheet development and support responsibilities transitioned from the Manager.
  • Promote standardization, scalability, and reusability of business systems solutions across the organization.
  • Champion the use of AI-assisted tools to drive continuous improvement in automation frameworks, workflows, and reporting.

At the Operational and Company Level
  • Perform quarterly User Access Reviews (UAR) of Vantagepoint, ensuring access aligns with role-based and internal control requirements.
  • Plan and conduct User Acceptance Testing (UAT) for Vantagepoint upgrades and module implementations.
  • Support annual or bi-annual reorganization activities and associated system testing.
  • Manage data integration into Vantagepoint, including overhead task creation and large-project work breakdown structures (WBS).
  • Respond to Smartsheet development requests from teams across the business; gather and translate requirements into effective solutions.
  • Design, build, and maintain Smartsheet sheets, dashboards, reports, and automated workflows, including reusable templates for recurring processes.
  • Ensure data integrity, governance, and compliance with organizational standards.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency through automation and elimination of manual processes.

Do the Work
  • Maintain the CRAID (Constraints, Risks, Assumptions, Issues, Dependencies) and task logs, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Capture meeting minutes and action items and distribute summaries with owners and due dates to the stakeholder group.
  • Build and maintain integrations and automation scripts using AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code) and Smartsheet APIs to connect enterprise systems, with no traditional programming background required.
  • Work closely with the Manager to develop more efficient methods for completing work, applying AI platforms under supervision.
  • Stay current on developments in AI, sharing relevant findings and their potential application with the Manager.
  • Contribute to design plans for new AI agent architecture as this capability matures.
  • Document solutions, processes, and technical designs for maintainability and knowledge sharing.
  • Assist Project Managers and Business Analysts as needed.
  • Complete other ad hoc system, automation, and project coordination tasks as requested by leadership.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Business, Finance, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Three or more (3+) years of experience in business/finance systems, ERP administration, or a systems analyst role.
  • Hands-on experience with Deltek Vantagepoint (testing, configuration, and data management) required.
  • Working knowledge of Smartsheet, including building sheets, dashboards, reports, and workflows. Deep development expertise is not required, but the candidate must be able to assume ongoing Smartsheet support responsibilities.
  • Experience executing UAT/UAR or structured system testing.
  • Demonstrated ability to use AI tools (e.g., Claude, Claude Code, Microsoft Copilot) to accelerate work and build technical solutions; willingness to develop scripts and integrations with AI assistance in lieu of traditional programming.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and working with data.
  • Familiarity with APIs, Python, or Azure DevOps a plus.
  • Understanding of internal controls, role-based access, or SOX/SOC principles a plus.
  • Experience in the AEC industry or with project accounting a plus.


Salary and eligible variable compensation (if any) commensurate with experience. Range $108,000 - $137,000 and includes a comprehensive benefits package.
