Full Job Description
In this role, you'll contribute to Naval Operational Architecture (NOA), working alongside engineers and operators to deliver resilient, forward-leaning solutions in support of national defense.

About the role: PMAT is seeking a motivated and technically capable System Administrator II to support the administration, monitoring, troubleshooting, and sustainment of Windows, Linux, virtualization, network, and tactical computing environments. This mid-level role supports day-to-day system operations, user support, vulnerability remediation, patching, backup and recovery, system documentation, and performance monitoring across enterprise and mission-focused environments. The candidate will work with IT, cybersecurity, engineering, data, and operational teams to help maintain secure, reliable, and mission-ready systems. The role requires strong problem-solving skills, collaborative communication, and the ability to support both traditional IT infrastructure and tactical systems in a fast-moving technical environment.

Responsibilities:
  • Administer and maintain Windows, Linux, ESXi, network, and tactical computing environments by supporting installation, configuration, updates, monitoring, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Support system security and compliance activities by assisting with patching, vulnerability remediation, security hardening, access control, cybersecurity guidelines, and audit-ready documentation.
  • Monitor server, network, and system performance by identifying issues, troubleshooting problems, supporting optimization efforts, and escalating complex technical risks as needed.
  • Support backup and recovery procedures by helping maintain data protection processes, validating system availability, and documenting recovery actions.
  • Provide end-user and technical team support by resolving system-related issues, answering technical questions, documenting troubleshooting steps, and coordinating follow-up actions.
  • Assist with network infrastructure support by helping maintain routers, firewalls, VPNs, and related network devices in coordination with senior administrators and engineering teams.
  • Support tactical systems and data environments by assisting with troubleshooting, tactical data pipeline monitoring, edge server operations, embedded GPU environments, and containerized workloads.
  • Maintain system documentation, configuration records, software inventories, license tracking, hardware tracking, and End-of-Life planning inputs to support infrastructure visibility and sustainment.


Required Skills and Experience:
  • Experience working as a system administrator, IT specialist, network administrator, data engineer, database administrator, software engineer, machine learning engineer, geospatial engineer, or related technical role.
  • Intermediate experience using the Linux command line to support system administration, troubleshooting, file management, process management, and technical operations.
  • Experience supporting Windows and Linux operating systems, system configuration, user support, patching, monitoring, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Understanding of networking concepts and protocols such as TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPNs, ports, routing, and firewall concepts.
  • Experience supporting cybersecurity, access control, vulnerability remediation, system hardening, patching, or secure configuration activities.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, time management, and multitasking skills in a dynamic technical environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively with IT, cyber, engineering, data, and operational stakeholders.


Preferred Skills and Experience:
  • Familiarity with virtualization and containerization technologies such as VMware, Docker, Kubernetes, or related platforms.
  • Familiarity with edge servers, embedded GPUs, tactical computing hardware, Jetson Nano, DGX Spark, or similar mission hardware.
  • Experience troubleshooting tactical systems or supporting tactical data pipelines, including deployment, monitoring, sustainment, or improvement activities.
  • Familiarity with security assessment tools, vulnerability scanning tools, CMMC compliance concepts, DISA STIG guidance, operating system hardening, and network hardening.
  • Familiarity with shell scripting, automation, or configuration tools such as Bash, Python, Ansible, PowerShell, or similar technologies.
  • Familiarity with cloud and enterprise services such as Amazon Web Services, GCC High, Microsoft 365, Azure, Intune, or related environments.
  • Previous experience working with government agencies, Navy organizations, military users, or Department of War mission environments.
  • Passion for staying current with advancements in tactical data architecture, system administration, cybersecurity, and mission infrastructure technologies.


Education and Certification Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent Experience
  • Current Security+ Certificate Preferred


Citizenship and Clearance Requirements:
  • U.S. Citizenship required
  • No dual citizenship
  • SECRET security clearance required
  • TS/SCI Eligible security clearance a plus

Travel & Passport: 5%, CONUS and OCONUS

Work Environment: PMAT offices as needed. In some cases, work in a government facility may be required. Travel may be required for customer engagement, team coordination, and potentially for business development.
