Job DescriptionBAE Systems is seeking a Technical Lead Systems Engineer for System Verification efforts in support of our work as a prime contractor on a high-profile U.S. Navy weapon system. The System Verification process provides a framework to assemble, in a systematic method, all of the various elements, assemblies, and subsystems, working iteratively with verification, until the weapon system is completely assembled and satisfies form, fit and functional design requirements. The ideal candidate will be someone who can lead a multi-disciplinary team of engineers toward meeting a set of objectives, demonstrate the behaviors to effectively communicate, coordinate, collaborate, and work in a visible and proactive manner across organizational boundaries to deliver positive results. This role is fit for someone who can be a highly engaging, team-oriented, problem solving, and self-starting individual able to respond rapidly to a dynamic programmatic environment.
As the Technical Lead Systems Engineer for System Verification, your responsibilities span engineering technical authority, leading engineering teams, and customer relationship management including:
Engineering Technical Authority
- Lead effort to refine and improve the Verification strategy and approach
- Lead independent verification activities based on system requirements verification methods and generate design compliance reports
- Lead and/or engage with Verification IPTs / Working Groups / Communities of Practice
- Lead execution of System Verification technical work products implementing technical rigor
- Ensure engineering outcomes are consistent with established engineering principles and practices and that customer and company technical, system, performance, and quality requirements are met
- Oversee and endorse technical documentation, data, presentations, reports, and white paper submissions to chief engineers for approval and then to the customers.
Leading Engineering Teams
- Assemble, lead, and manage high-performance teams focused on delivering engineering products and developing innovative solutions to complex mission and business challenges.
- Mentor engineers, scientists, technologists, and analysts in the areas of Systems Engineering, Verification, and Test to foster technical rigor and consistency across the programs
Customer Relationship Management
- Establish and maintain exceptional relationships with SES, GS-15, and GS-14 level US Navy customers/clients to solve technical problems and implement solutions of extremely high complexity.
- Support the customer in the execution of the Systems Engineering Verification process including Systems Engineering technical reviews.
Required Skills and EducationEducation required:
BS degree in engineering or related field and minimum of 10 years of related, proven experience successfully leading system engineering activities across large-scale weapon systems; or a Master of Science in Engineering and minimum of 8 years of related experience.
Additional skills/experience required:
- 8+ years' experience leading systems engineering on large DoD programs, engineering services development and execution, and programs sustainment
- 8+ years of experience supporting acquisition and/or RDTE with submarines or missile systems in a technical leadership role.
- Thorough understanding and implementation of the end-to-end System Engineering lifecycle.
- Experience working with multi-discipline cross functional teams, utilizing strong communication and collaboration skills Excellent written and oral communication skills with experience presenting to senior leaders and customers.
- Strong customer focus and track record of success building long-term customer relationships
- Strong leadership, coaching and mentoring skills with the ability to achieve results through others.
- Willing to travel approximately 10% of the time
- Must possess strong organizational, time management, and project management skills
- Proficient with PC and MS Office Suite
Preferred Skills and Education- Prior experience working in missile weapon systems, space, and/or nuclear fields.
- Experience implementing digital engineering, model-based engineering, and/or agile engineering techniques
- MS Degree in Systems Engineering or CSEP/ASEP certification
- Project/Program Management certification
